what can't i update 2013 stats?

okay, why can't i just open the batting, pitching and fielding cvs files and put in 2013 stats?

why does the program go straight to the historical database.odb instead of going to the cvs files?

why is the database.odb so proprietary that i can't input stats myself?

i'm i doing something wrong or is one of the most basic features to have (the ability to update stats) in a baseball sim not included?

why can't i just open the historical database and update stats?

isn't the selling point of this game is being able to customize things?

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

You should be able to open the .csv or .txt files and add stats. What's happening to prevent you

As with everything else in OOTP all this is indeed easily customizable. Please don't assume it isn't just because you're unsure how to do it! I work with updating stats in OOTP nearly every day. It's perfectly possible and even fairly easy once you get the hang of it.

When working with the lahman style db, if the .odb gets in your way, just delete it! So far as I know, it's not actually needed, it's only there because it cuts down on the in-game loading time. If it isn't there the game will load from the .csv files.

I'm pretty sure you can also create an .odb file yourself from your edited files, though someone else will have to explain how to do so as I've never actually done it...

I don't think OOTP's .odb files are standard data base files.....we can't open them......

ok thanks

i will try that...

i guess it's not as straightforward as all the other features.

the whole designed baseball universe of ootp is to 'easily' customize things.

player stats though needs a data dump...leaving the baseball universe by export and then importing it back in...

if that's the way to do it, i will learn to get good at that but it seems like, and in keeping the ootp pattern with all other features, it should be something that you could easily do within the universe.

thanks for your input...this forum is the most valuable part of the ootp universe.

This got a little more challenging with 14, but even before you may not get what you are looking for.

First, you can change the csv files. Not hard but tedious.

To make them work you must delete the .odb files. I make my mods in a sub folder in the stats folder, because if you remove the .odb files from stats folder, then you will have issues with other leagues.

In 14, if you delete the .odb you will get an error message saying it can't find the database, but despite the error, it will work. I have not seen any issues with some of the ratings, but I would not rule out that the .odb has info not in the .csv.

Finally you cannot start a new league with 2013 data. This is true in all versions. There is a parameter set that says the current year is "x" in the case of 14 it is 2013, meaning it uses 2012 data. If you enter 2013 dat and then try to start a season in 2014, it will not allow it. If you start prior with the 2013 data in the file, it should be fine.

ODB is an OTP Developments data base file. It's basically all the data we input into our Roster Editor and then is compiled into our own database form.
It's located in your ootp's stats folder.

Funny Stuff

But back to my original plight. The advise is not applicable because although I own several versions of OOTP, I was trying to make it work on OOTP5 free. Still my favorite.

Sooooo... you were complaining about the functionality on the software NINE versions ago?

{mock stage whisper} I think they might have improved it by now.

Willing to help if I can, but I don't understand in the least what your original plight is. All I see is that you asked what a .ODB file is and Rod answered you correctly. So what isn't applicable?

No Catchers

The games works properly except for 90 percent of catchers come up as position players. Even the catchers that do indeed play a position in addition to catching show no indication of being a catcher. Although I have manipulated the team files to get the 2013 year to work with OOTP5, I cannot get the game to except changes to the fielding file. Unless there is another file that controls such data. I have to manually change about 60 records for each game of the 2013 season of the new Lahman database.

Lahman 2013 Stats is missing ALL catcher fielding records. Mr. Lahman is aware of this challenge.

Contact Mr. Lahman. This has nothing to do with OOTP Developments.
