.dat issues and Jim Unknown

Hey all,
I am looking for a true OOTP expert, possibly even one of the support engineers. I have opened cases for 2 other issues with support and received no reply so I haven't seen a reason to open an actual case for this one, but it's BAD

First off, our Players.dat and Teams.dat files are at least twice as big as most leagues. I believe this is due to the 30,000 Jim Unknowns that found their way into our file. I have been unable to remove the Jims from the file in any method I have found online so far. Here is how I have tried to remove them so far:

Player Search for players with the last name Unknown. This lists them all just fine. Unfortunately, clicking on them in anyway corrupts the file. BALLS!

Unchecking the "ghost players" box in game setup. This was already unchecked. I tried checking it and then unchecking it but had no luck. LAME!

I really would like these guys to go away and they just don't seem to want to. I also believe they are causing my second issue which is this:

When one team exports, their file is 50MB!! Look at your league if you have the chance. All exports are 130 to 180 KB. So this file is over 250x larger than it should be. What I have found is that, under the Trade Status screen, they have Jim Unknown in their Not Interested list. This page takes at least 30 minutes to actually load before I can even see it. If i then try to remove my buddy Jim from that list it just hangs. I have let it run for about 5 hours now and it hasn't updated. I don't really expect it to, but I am holding out hope.

What I am quietly hoping for is that an engineer or developer will see this and find a new and exciting way to fix this problem. Or maybe someone has dealt with this before and has some sweet new ideas for me. Thanks to ANYONE who can help me out somehow. Thanks!

I don't know if your file can be fixed at this point. I had this problem when I first started the HBL. To fix it I found that you have to include the names.dat and the retired.dat every time you upload the league file following a sim. The game says you don't have to do this but that is what fixed our issue.

This can be found under: commish portal->league file settings

make sure both boxes are checked all the time

Like I said, your league may not be fixable but I hope this helps in the future

Thanks for this. The file actually works so the league isn't dead, but the files are much bigger so downloads are longer and some people get hangs when it opens. I will keep my fingers crossed that your fix has a positive effect!

As a follow up, no luck on this fix...

.dat issues

File gets stuck at 13% loading in game and updating league file. I know this is the percentage that imports the dat file. Please help

Jim Unknowns can be caused by a crash during a simming process. Happened to me when my antivirus started up during a sim and crashed OOTP, then restarting where I left off (instead of going back to the last stable backup). The league would crash doing different tasks, including messing with any Jims.

I tried all the suggestions, but in the end the league was totally hosed.

Back your leagues up often.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

It looks like this is a repeat of the OOTP 12 online league bug. The teams.dat file has progressively balooned and is now up to 158MB. Markus was able to patch it in OOTP 12. I wonder if he can employ a similar fix?
