10 Inning 1-Hitter to start career 10-0
Henry Porter, in his 11th professional start, threw a 16K, 1 W, 1-hitter to start his ML career 10-0. Fittingly, it was a 10 inning CG.
All of his appearances have come as a starter. The RL record for consecutive wins to start a career is 9, by Jeff Zimmerman, who began his win streak as a reliever. I got Porter with the 24th pick in the previous draft. I use the scouting recommendations for the draft so I don't slant the talent for my team (this is my HOF model league...what I hope is the last run through). My scouts really liked Dwight Gooden. Of course, I did, too! But he was gone at pick number 7. Henry Porter? Well, my scouts had him 4.5 stars for current and potential. Heck, can't ever have enough pitching. Needless to say I am not mourning the fact that I missed out on Dwight Gooden (who my scouts had 5 and 5 stars). Porter's 0.82 ERA is an ERA+ of 540. Not too shabby...for a rookie. |

Porter wound up winning 15 straight decisions to start his career before dropping a 1-0 contest.
In a showdown of 12-0 starters, Porter got his 13th win vs Lefty Grove (who received a ND). In the divisional play-offs Porter (21-2) matched up against Grove (23-4) twice. They split the contests. All Grove-Porter games were held in the evening in order to accommodate The Nocturnals..................... |
