Drafted Player's Playing Location Post-Draft
Sorry for the mouthful of a subject line, I didn't know how else to condense it.
In the 2013 draft for the Winnipeg Jets, I drafted Mitch Holmberg from Sherwood Park, AB who played for the Spokane Chiefs in the WHL. I did not sign him to an entry level deal for 2013-2014. He ended up playing the season for HPK in the SML. There really should be no reason why he'd leave the WHL for the SML. |

How old is he? Major Junior has age restrictions.

dob is 1993-03-09. So he's not eligible next year except as an overage player. That would be why he left, if no one signed him as one of their few overage players allowed.

I don't have the game yet, but EHM on the info screen had years of junior eligibility left. Sometimes if a player had used all of his years, then he would still be precluded from being sent back to the juniors even as an overage player.
I often had a handful of unsigned prospects who were not good enough for the AHL but had no years of junior hockey left. I would put them on my ECHL roster. The AI never seemed to do that. It may end up being a bug. But from a player development standpoint, I would much rather have him playing at HPK! It is a good team with good training facilities and coaching and an overall higher standard of league. |
