noob question on ballparks
Haven't really followed baseball in a longtime so bear with me. What makes a ballpark hitter friendly or pitcher friendly? I know it has to do with the distance of the fences, but what dimensions constitutes the designation either way?

In real life the distances are a major factor...generally, longer distances from home to the walls = more of a pitcher's park. In OOTP the distances are just decoration and have no bearing. You can modify the park and have it 1000 ft RF. This will only lead to 1001 ft HRs. I don't have the game in front of me, but there are factors in the game that regulate all kinds of things (Righthanded hitters power, lefthanded batting average, etc) that will have the park play as a hitters park, a pitchers park, or neutral.

For a particular team, you can check the ballpark factors as Renner mentioned. From the Team Menu at top right, go to Team Finances and go to Edit Finances. That's where you can find the Ballpark factors that in-game affect whether a park will give up more home runs, or be more of a pitcher's park, etc - basically it's just a series of percentages - whether it leans more toward pitching or hitting just depends on the percentages and how far away from the default 1.000 it is - so the park I am looking at shows AVG overall is .962 which is close to average, but Home Runs are .932 so a little less - the lower the numbers the more of a pitcher's park in game.
As Renner mentioned in real life the distances are what counts, but in OOTP it only uses those cosmetically. Last edited by Peregrine; 01-18-2013 at 12:42 AM. |

The better way to access ballparks is to use the Team Setup option under the Advanced area of the team menu. This is in the bottom right of the menu.
From there, you can click the Edit Ballpark button on the button of the subsequent screen, and that will take you to an area within the game that allows you to edit the park and also select from a list of all ballparks to conduct other edits. When changing ballpark factors, make sure to hit ENTER after editing each item. |
