SLOP...A unique fast-sim experience (OOTP13)

SLOP grew from a concept league in late 2011 to a full-fledged online fast-sim league. As of this posting, we've simmed 33 seasons. We've seen an entire generation come and go all within the calendar year!)

SLOP is fast-sim OOTP for the player who wants to play without being forced to turn his online league into a second job. We sim the season every other week, with the off-season simmed in the "off" week, but sims only occur about 4 days a week, making it a lot easier to keep up with your team. Since June, we've been using Out of the Park Baseball 13 simulation engine. (We started with OOTP12)

Like always with fast-sim, it's possible to set your team up and not check in everyday. It's great for people who enjoy the solo experience, but want a bit more of a challenge playing against live people.

The basics of SLOP:

Two leagues (one DH, one non-DH) of eight teams each playing in a single table. The top 3 teams from each league qualifies for the playoffs. The 2nd and 3rd place teams play in a best-of-five game Elimination Series, with the winner taking on the top seed in the LCS (best-of-seven) with the pennant winners taking on each other in a (best-of-nine) tilt called the Sunset Series.

Mid-season break. SLOP took fast-sim and made it better. Teams get TWO chances to for breaks in the season, as SLOP is now a three-sim fast-sim league. We sim the season in thirds and then do the playoffs at the end of the week. A season every other week.

Custom Financials.. We have our financial system out of OOTP. Teams start with $100m in cap space which goes up or down based on how well they do. Spend lots and lose? You're going to take a hit the following year. Rebuilding teams usually end up turning a profit and teams looking to make a run at a title can end up getting paid off handsomely thanks to our Playoff Pool which rewards playoff teams well but penalizes people who spend profligate without managing to get the job done on the field.

Draft Lottery. Tired of tanking teams tanking to gain draft picks? Looking for an exciting way to end the year when you're team is on the skids? In SLOP, we've got a draft lottery that keeps it interesting for all non-playoff teams.

You can send me a PM on this board if you're interested or check out our forum.

Sweet, I dropped you a note.

If anyone else is interested, please do post here or drop me a note. I'd even give up my team if we have people interested in this league or this concept, you don't have to be an experienced owner to play fast-sim, but if you do, it's a great league to test your chops on a different level.

We've got experienced owners from of the best leagues on the web playing in SLOP, so it's a great test of your talents to go up against champs from quality online leagues!

Interested. Been playing OOTP since 8 I think. I played in one online league a couple of years ago (can't remember the name).

You might look at this thread and think "gee, they have a lot of turnover." The reality is, we pretty much expand when we have 2 people available to take over teams. So we're almost always full, but in past year due to demand we've more than doubled since I actively began recruiting. We started as a concept league with 8 teams late in 2011 and we're now at 20 teams a year later.

There's no real waiting list, per se, usually people get into SLOP once they're interested because I'd rather have people playing than not.

So if you're ever interested in giving fast-sim a try, you just let me know and we'll work something out.

It's a lot of fun, it's extremely low key and we've had 7 different champions in the past seven seasons so there's parity to boot. We're heading into our 29th season.

Here's an update to that first post:

DIVISIONAL PLAY When we added 20 teams, we went to a divisional schedule that's balanced. Now we have two leagues of two divisions each with five teams. Gives teams a shot at getting to the playoffs by just beating 4 other clubs. We still have a 3rd spot for the wild card team in each league too.

EXPANDED PLAYOFFS? SOMETIMES.. One of the side effects of divisional play, is sometimes one division has a weak champ and qualifies for the post-season despite not being one of the best teams in their league. We fixed that problem in SLOP by expanded the playoffs ONLY in the years where a division champ finishes 4th or 5th best in their league. When it happens, we allow 5 teams per league. Makes it more fun for all, but top seeds still get a bye all the way to the LCS.

Cap space trading: We continue to turn unused cap space into an asset through the ability to deal cap space for the current season. It helps those teams at mid-season thinking they'll go for it, as well as others who want to make a run at the start of a year.

Long story short, as we head into 2013 and our 30th season, SLOP is alive and kicking. Interested in fast-sim? Hit me up.

SLOP is likely switching from 2 sims to 3 sims, starting next season, meaning we'll sim the entire regular season thirds rather than one half at a time.
