Bob Rombach
Bob Rombach was an outfielder and third baseman on the 1963 Moultrie Colts. The photo is from the Amarillo (TX) Globe-Times of June 26, 1970. The newspaper was reporting on his resignation as a baseball coach of one high school to take a job as coach at another Texas high school. Within the article, it mentioned that he had played professional within the Houston organization.

1963 Moultrie Colts
After all this time spent searching for photos of individual 1963 Moultrie players, I just came across a team photo. It appears in the book COLQUITT COUNTY, by Melody S. Jenkins.
Ms. Jenkins offers the following identifications for those in the photos. I have made spelling corrections. Bottom row (L to R): Bill Palko, unidentified, Bill Goodlet, unidentified bat boy (slightly in front), Bob Walenczyk, Frank Thomas, Ivan Murrell. Middle row (L to R): Jay Dahl, Ray Ferrand, Dennis Willett, Oliverio "Sparky" Sparks, Jim Green, Jerry Ellis, Jim Marrujo, Alan "Al" Goldfield. Top row (L to R): Chuck Churn (pitching coach), Ramon De La Cruz, unidentified, Joe Panella, unidentified, Sammie Robinson, Kent Thaxton, Tommy Tucker, Chuck Warden, Larry Howard, Bob Rombach, Charlie Murray, Jim Walton (manager). |

Alan Goldfield
Alan "Al" Goldfield was a pitcher on the 1963 Moultrie and Modesto teams. He is shown in the team photo above. The reason why I am posting him separately is that he is among the wealthiest ex-players I've ever run across, especially for a man who made his money outside the world of sports. The source of his good fortune was his becoming the founder and CEO of a cell phone company -- the CellStar Corporation of Dallas, Texas, which he no longer owns. He has also been a generous philanthopist, giving nice donations to his alma mater, which was one of the universities in Texas (I don't recall which one).
Alan Goldfield was on the Houston spring roster in 1963. Pictured below are Alan and his former estate, which went onto the market some years ago. It was originally listed with a $70 million price tag. Its name was Champ d'Or (Field of Gold). It was located in Hickory Creek, Texas, near Denton. https://www.baseball-reference.com/r...d=goldfi001ala |

John Bukowski
Pitcher John Bukowski was on the 1962 Moultrie Colts. The New York Mets purchased him from Houston over the 1962-63 winter, and he appeared on the Mets' spring roster in 1963.
This photo was posted on the OOTP website in May of 2014, but I don't know who did the posting. I kept track of the URL of the page on which it was posted, but about six months ago, OOTP re-set all the URL's on its pages, so I can't get back to years worth of photos I had recorded. Furthermore, I haven't mastered the art of the OOTP search function to find the photo that way. Sorry. https://www.baseball-reference.com/r...d=bukows001joh P.S. Subsequent posting by FatJack clarifies that the image was originally posted by Merkle, so the credit goes to him. FatJack also posted a much clearer version on the next page. Steve Jacobus
Steve Jacobus was a first baseman on the 1962 Moutrie Colts. Don't know what uniform he is wearing in the attached photo. The accompanying article mentions three recent teams on which he played. His high school team was Shawnee-Mission North (Overland Park, KS), from which he graduated in 1960. He had been through his freshman year in college, and had played first base for the University of Missouri the previous year. He had also been playing for the Milgrams in the Ban Johnson League (summer collegiate league baseball) "the past two years." The photo is from the Kansas City (MO) Times of April 3, 1962.
