I was curious about this as well, if this would work for OOTP12 or not. Been thinking about running a complete history of baseball with the players randomly mixed up. Thanks!

Cross-era play (as in random debut) is my favorite way to play OOTP, and I've always wondered why there is not more support for it within the game and the community. |

Exactly! It should be an option within the game.
When I tell people about OOTP, their response is often, "oh, so you can have, like, Roger Clemens pitch to Babe Ruth..." or something like that. To many people, it's the most obvious appeal about a game like this. |

This is a pretty quiet corner of the forums down here, and we're pretty deep in this thread. Easy to get overlooked. Maybe we should be lobbying for this feature loudly in the suggestions forum.

does this work with 12
anyone know if the random database will work with 12??
also trying to modify database. Have always wanted to condense the whole span of majors to 50 years or so. Just a project i started when random database idea first surfaced. I would like to start sim around 1901 and then as sim continues import rookies from lets say years 1902-05 for second year's draft and 1905-1908 for third year's draft and then 1909-1912 for forth and so on. so instead of simming 130 years or so i could get them all in 50 years of simming. i know this is somewhat crazy but l'd like to be able to modify the random database to do this. could have ruth, gehrig and possibly dimaggio on same yankees team for example or cobb, heilmann, greenberg on tigers team i know there are best of databases or quick starts out there only dif with this setup is they would have entire careers in database any one got any ideas how to achieve this?? |

Database structure has changed for ver 12 so nuttin' for earlier versions will work without making structural changes that have structurally changed the database structures.

I was able to convert my random DB from 11 to 12 (I still point to the 11 random DB stats folder)

Would you be able to upload the file at all for us to download?

This is exclusively how I played 10. I had a league going for 7 seasons. I skipped 11. I have not been able to get it working with 12. Am so bummed.

When you convert a league it will only work for one year as you have found. Conversion only affects the active year. That is because the conversion does not change the formats of any of the CSV or ODB files. Unless those are changed as well the game cannot progress. I posted a D-I-Y on how to create your own Random DB for ANY version of OOTP, even ones that do not exist yet, a few months ago. Ones so generated will progress nicely. It takes about 20 minutes to create such a db using the instructions once you get used to it and save the steps as Macros in spreadsheets. Expect 1 - 3 hrs the first time depending on when the light bulb gets lit up for you. If you are good with databases and program one to do these steps it takes less than a minute to generate a random db and no two so generated will ever be the same. I'd definately use neutered stats as your base/starting csv files. It puts cross-era players on the same level and a random db is one giant cross-era playground.

Randon db for OOTP12 available. PM me for the ftp link.
I made 20 different ones but only put up one. If it plays OK I'll put up the rest.
