Hello OOTP world.

I have been sealed in a jar working on 'The Mother of all Utilities'.

It is designed to work with OOTP 9, but should work with the version before that.

What does it do? Rephrase that question to What does it not do?

It is still being worked on and is at least a few weeks, if not longer before a public testing, but here are some advanced screen shots of the program.

NOTE: To take full advantage of the program, you should do a yearly CSV dump every year and also save the almanac every year (Box scores and play by plays)

This is the opening screen to the program: (The logo there will change)

Logos:

This is the logo part of the program. As of now, it will add historical logos for a historical league. It will also add the historical minor league logos, as it has a large collection of them built in.

This is the player selection screen. This is where you can see a list of players, sorted by position. You can filter by active, retired, HOF, free agents and team.

You can also click one of the search buttons and do an image search at Google, AOL, MSlive and PicSearch to find missing photos. Click on the picture and it takes you to the next screen shot.

The show player screen shows an enlarged picture of the player and their lifetime stats, including Minor leagues. It shows their history and tallys things like Player of the week, bater of the month, gold glove and all star games. Filters include the ability to:

Hide minor league stats
Show ratings only in history
Show Injuries only in history
Show lefty and righty stats only in stat window

Also shown is their total career earnings.

Player information brings up the players game by game history for the season.

The game by game screen shows details for each game, with sortable fields. Color highlighted to make it look cool and give you more visual information.

You can also click on any game and view the box score of said game.

The photo section allows you to automatically add photos year by year. A large collection is sorted by year, and can be downloaded from the program. So, if you have a Bob Gibson picture in the 1967 folder and your year is 1967, it will use that photo, but when you run it again in 1968, it will grab the 1968 picture and use it. So, you can actually have real aged photos of your favorite players.

It will also check my sever for any new photos and allow you to upload new photos to the photo database.

You can right click on the missing photo names on the right and search the net for photos.

This last screen is pretty cool, IMHO. The tree on the left shows all of the years of the league. Click on a + next to a year and it expands showing all the teams for that year, including minor league teams. Click on a team and it will show all the players on that team at the end of said year. Click on a player and it will show you a list, as shown of all the games that said player appeared in for the year, including spring and post season games. Shows the results of each game, winning pitchers, losing pitchers, etc. And of course, you can click on any game and see the box score and play by play.

You can also filter the spring out and not clear the list. So, you could load in different seasons for a certain player.

this looks pretty cool*

* and by cool I mean... "Well, let's say this Twinkie represents the normal amount of psychokinetic energy in the New York area. Based on this morning's reading, it would be a Twinkie thirty-five feet long, weighing approximately six hundred pounds"

I am looking for a few beta testers that meet the following requirements:

Must be able to create a test league from 1901 to 1950 or beyond, with a yearly CSV dump, and saving the almanac (box scores and play by play only) - So, if you have a 20 gig hard drive, it may not be a good idea.

Must have MS Framework 3.5 on computer (this is free and more and likely, you already have it)

Highspeed internet access required to download the photos, etc.

Can work with me on phone to fix bugs and talk features. It would be my call, as it is free calls for me.

E-mail me at larry@cfl.rr.com if you are interested.

Just added the Fictional Logo section. I have a 106 meg collection that you can download with the program.

The way it works is simple. If the team name is "Orlando Drunk Mice", you click on the team name. It will then show the current logo at the bottom left. It will also fill the three text windows with the three names "Orlando" "Drunk" and "Mice".

When you click on one of the three windows, like the "Mice" one, it will search and show all the logos that have the phrase MICE in it. To use a logo, just click on the one you want and it is done.

You can also type in any text you want in one of the windows and click it and it will search for it.

I don't know if this is even possible, but would there be anyway to include a league history editor into this?

The keys would be to add
1) Award Winners
2) Stats, major and minor
3) Playoff results

There's probably more but those are the keys in my eyes

Nope, I can't modify that stuff.

You will be able to modify the player's history, changing keywords, adding or deleting history from the player's history.

This morning, I wrote a career development page. It shows the player's ratings from year to year in a nice grid. You can see how their ratings went up and down throughout the years.

I really have no idea how you do what you do, but, I did notice there is a file in the dump called game.csv that has a heading called game type. Game type I think is a code to designate a regular season game from a playoff game, from a spring training game, from an all star game. Any chance of using this file to gather playoff info/stats/results?

I use the CSV dump files. In fact, I had a lot to do with what they contain since I was on the beta team(s). I am the one that suggest the year by year and month by month automatic dump, which gives me a lot of power to look at the history of the league.

As far as the break down you mentioned, this is pretty much in the game already when viewing stats. But my program(s) do break it down on the stats that it views.

Look up at the game by game screens and you will see where it shows it being a regular game, spring, post season.

For those interested on the progress, it is going along. Here is a What's new file that I have pretty much kept updated from day 1.

(newest stuff at the top)

Started the History Hint section under the tools. It DOES NOT save
the hints at this time. No option setting screen yet, adding different
events from the players history file.

Added a new players development screen. So now the toggle works
three ways.

Fixed a bug regarding the game by game screen whereas it was not
showing the proper win/loss result for away games

Added autosave screen size to development screen and a couple others

Added the fictional logo part of the program, you must download
the fictional logos

Fixed the St. Louis Logo problem. OOTP was strippng out the DOT
so now I am.

Added the ability to add historical logos to the Almanac. Very fast
routine, adds 68 years of logs in less than a minute

Having no fun with the box scores, so moved on for now.

Open league, click on the TEST button on the main screen

Then click a + to open a year and then click on a team. For now, you
have to click it twice (NOT DOUBLE CLICK) and then click on the
team name on the right and the players on that team will appear

Not sure how I will use this, but was an experiment to learn how to use
tree view

Added Box Browser in it's early stages. After you do an Almanac
Box Score search, a new one or an old one. the Box Browser will
be enabled from the menu. It will load a new window that will allow
you to easily browse that player's box scores that are significant.

Next, a tree (I hope) will be added on the left with a year by year
break down. All sorts of searchs will be performed from this page, like
show all box scores vs. a certain team or vs. a certain pitcher or
when said player hit HR, was Player of game, etc.

Updated Alamanac Search. It now indexes it, so the 1st time you run it
it takes about 15 seconds to search through each almanac year, but
the 2nd time you run it on a player, it pops up right away. Future years
are also quicker, as it only searches through the almanac years that
are not searched.

This information is stored in AU2008/ALMANAC - There is a INI file for
the player based on his ID. Inside it is the last year that the almanac
was checked. There is another file with a TXT extension. This contains
the actual games. There is an addiional file that has ALL_ in the beginning
of the name. This contains EVERY box score that said player has in the
almanac. I will use this information in another part of the program.

Add almanac search, very slow right now, will be speeded up. Also will be
indexed, so if you do an almanac search Bill Freehan it will save this
information in another file, so next time you search Bill, it will come up
instantly unless a new almanac year exists, then it will just search the
new almanac year.

Added Box score search, will search through box scores collecting
ones that have the selected player as PLAYER of GAME, being injured
or other items that are displayed after the PLAYER OF GAME text
in the HTML. You can then double click on the box score and it will display
the box score in your browser

Added a game by game report for the players for the current year on
the players page

Added vs LHP/RHP stat break down in Player screen, added a
way to see RATINGS ONLY

New logo on splash screen

Added a career contract total to the Player Screen, same screen
you can also filter out the minor league stats

Fixed the LOGO problem. Delete the HistoricalLogo folder and
download it again and run the exe

Added the ability to just show a team under UPDATE PLAYERS

Removed the PITCHES SEEN and also removed the ROWS header

Added a photo count when adding photos, also tweaked the screen
refresh. Checked the code for errors with just 2 leagues, no problems

Added a RIGHT CLICK button on the list of the NO PHOTO players. This
allows you to do a search at the websites for images from this page.

Added GAMBO Search. It searches the OOTP Photo folder 1st. However,
if it finds a match in this folder and in the year by year folder
it will use the year by year folder.
