Anderson Utilities - AUHistory

I am at it again.

AUHistory is a quick and easy way to add a line to a player's history.

When you run the program and pick a league, it will display in alphabetical order, all of the players in the league. Click on one of their names and you will see this player's history in the pane below.

There is a date picker that you can use to pick any date in history and also a line to add the history you want to add. It sorts it correctly and then you can save it back to the drive. The default date for the date picker is the date of the last transaction in this guy's history. (Quite tricky to do that!)

This is an early version of the program. But it does work, if you want to add a line of history to his file. It basically just modifies the player_##_history.txt file for the player.

http://www.sim2005.com/AUHistory/

NOTE: Do not enter a date past the current date of the league. I am not sure what will happen. Nothing I think. But I will be adding a trap to not allow that to happen.

Future features:

Show players for one team only.
Allow multiple selection of players and add the same history to all selected players.
All you to add a line to every player's history.
Ability to delete history lines.
Ability to modify existing history lines.

Updated the program.

- Added a team list. You can just display players from a team(s)
- Added the ability to edit existing lines and also delete existing lines

When you click on a player's name, his history, if it exists is shown below. You can type some text in the above window and press add and it will add it to his history. Be sure and select a date or it will default to the date of his newest history item.

To Edit: Click on one of the history lines. It will remove that history line and put it in the edit window. You can delete it or edit it and then click on SAVE and it will be saved.

You can load multiple teams by not clearing out the team list.

Great utility Comedian. One thing you might want to add to your description though. When you click on a line of history, you can then edit it, but you have to hit 'ADD' to put it back into a person's history file, and then hit save. Hitting save by itself doesn't add the line back in (I know because I lost a line of text before I realized what i needed to do.)

One more thing: I'm not sure why this is happening, but when I open a team, I still show players that I have traded away, and do not show players that I have traded for. In my example, I traded away Jacque Jones from the Cubs for Rondell White (KC), but neither show up on their new teams.

*EDIT* Nevermind about players not showing up after trades, I hadn't updated my CSV dump. It works fine now, great job, even if this is a work-in-progress.

One thing I'm noticing is that the box displaying the game generated history is displaying past the end of the window.

Also the team drop down doesn't seem to update if you change your league.

Updated:

- Made display window smaller and added scroll bars to bottom window.
- Added players name display at top
- Removed popup for players with no history. A file is automatically created now, just add what you want and click save.

New feature I am thinking of:

The ability to 'randomly' add colorful history to the history file.

A list of random events is created. The program runs through the list and randomly picks things and assigns it to random players. It could be stuff like 'Grandmother dies', 'Busted for smoking pot with groundskeeper', "bat broke, exposing cork, was fined'

It would add your custom list to the history. Color your world a little.

Anyone up for a challenge? Create a random history list? If so, it would need to contain quite a few entries, to make it interesting. Avoid phrases that could not make sense, like injuries or suspending someone for 3 days, as it could not work with certain people.

If you create something, follow this format:

8 Made local headlines when caught driving 100 MPH.
2 Fell off donkey in pregame show, made fool of self.

Where the number is the freq. All the numbers will be added up and that is the freq of how often an event can happen. Let's say it totals 150 and the number is 8. That would be a 8 in 150 chance of it happening.

Think of all those things that you hear about with players that 'could' have an effect on a player. Late for practice, locker room scuffle, drug investigation, marriage problems, divorce, kids born, relatives dying, grew beard, shaved head.

Have not figured out the problem with the team drop down after switching yet.

Yes, I've noticed these things in the deployment of my own programs. It seems Microsoft doesn't want end-users to choose where programs are installed. I've looked everywhere and can't figure out how to choose an install location for the end-user.

EDIT: Okay, I was upset so I checked this out. It appears Microsoft really doesn't want the end-user to choose the install directory. They claim this is all to ensure applications are "safe, reversible, and easy to administer".

I call BS on this one. Guess we'll have to go with an MSI installer at some point.

Metsfan...

What is your default browser? If it is not IE, then change it to IE when you install the program. You can change it back after the installation. See if that works. I will have a free standing installation soon.

Great utility. Now a question that I'm reposting from another forum:

First off, I'm not a programmer so it's very possible I'm overlooking something here.

Wouldn't it be possible to write a utility that converts the old player history over to the new format so that it could be brought over to the new game?

Line from old player text file:

Injured on 8/21/2014 with a Stiff Knee, out for one week...

Line from new player text file (same news)
:

20140821 Injured (Stiff Knee), out one week.

It would seem simple enough for a program to rearrange the order of the text lines from the old player history text file to get them into the new format. Then it would be a process of matching a player ID from the old engine with a player ID from the new (maybe using the player's name in the csv dump?).

Is it really that much more complicated than that?

I am up for the challenge.

I do not have any 6.x leagues, so I need someone to supply me with the data.

I will need someone to zip up their 6.x league and send it to me. I will then import it and see what I can do.

I would rather have a smaller league in years (maybe 5-10 years in length,

Let me know if you have the test data.

I can't get it to work. Fresh CSV dump. Loads correct league and immediately throws the errors. Never displays players or really anything else.

Every time I open the application, I get the immediate error screen. Even worse, the AU History application screen is embedded on my desktop and cannot be closed. It's stuck there. I can go to other applications and it fades to the background, but, returning to the desktop, it's stuck in place.

Can't get rid of it with ctl/alt/delete (end program, end application or end process for auhistory.exe.) Wow! Help!
