OOTP Video Tutorial: For New Players

Hi guys,

I wanted to do this for a while. This is a first segment (if people like it) on how to 'play' OOTP for player's new to the game. WARNING; If you already know how to play the game, this is not for you. You will certainly be bored by it. However, for people that that are new to the sport of baseball or entirely new to the game, I hope this can be of assistance. OOTP is a brilliant game but can be a bit tough to get started with. My hope is that this will be a rough, visual guide.

Anyway, please let me know if you have any questions and if you would like me to continue the series. I am not an OOTP expert by any means, but I have a voice, Camtasia and have been in love with this game for the last 8 versions. Enjoy.

Part 1: Getting Started

Part 2 : Roster Management and MLB Rules

I ramble a lot on this one a lot more than I would have liked to but I hope it still is informational. Thanks for the kind words.

Part 3: Contracts and Finances

Part 4: Simple Modding (logos, jerseys, names and colors)

Great video. If you play with coaches and managers off, what option will you have when asking to set up lineup for you?

Thanks for the video.

It certainly helps me appreciate more about the depth line ups.

Though I've bought the last 3 OOTP's and 2 iOOTP's I still don't understand baseball like I do say football (soccer) so video's like this will help fellow noobs like myself appreciate the more intricate elements of the game.

I have found watching baseball on ESPN America helpful to learn some of the rules etc so it all helps.

I look forward to more video's to help us play this brilliant game.

Cody, this is awesome stuff and it should be stickied. It's gonna get lost in here within a few days and that'd be a crying shame. This stuff is way to beneficial to new users for it to get lost in the shuffle.
Thanks for all your time and effort with this project.
I'd contact Markus and see about getting them added to the video turorial section on site here as we really need more of those:

I look forward to the next video. Even though I have been playing OOTP for a number of years, it is always good to see how someone else navigates around the game, and it helps to learn the new interface.

Thanks man. The main problem is that the MLB stuff is used in my game so Markus and co can't officially support it. I would have use fictional leagues but I thought real life players would be easier to get people used to.

Ahh that's right. Didn't even think about that. Should still sticky this post though. Hope you don't mind, but I posted a link to here over in the New to the Game section.

thanks for the video

Thanks for the video I have watched baseball and played ootp for many years and even reading the manual was always confused about the rule 5. Instantly you cleared up this and maybe you thought you were rambling but the information got across like a light bulb above my head. Your videos are much appreciated to a non USA person where soccer is more knowledgeable to the public.

If you can produce more videos many more newbies I believe will be able to increase their enjoyment of this great game and its people like yourself on this forum which I found to have such a passion to help other users money cant buy.

Thanks again.....

Thanks so much, Cody.

Being new to baseball and OOTP, I've been dying for a proper intro like this. Assumptions and blind button-clicking has only gone so far

Absolutely fantastic...as somebody who loves baseball (and OOTP), but is a novice when it comes to some of the transaction/roster move rules in the Major Leagues, this tutorial was enormously helpful.

As a new player to this franchise, as well as simulations in general, these videos were very helpful and extremely well done. Thank you.
