20 vs 19 ratings

Just bought 20.
Why would the ratings be different the same player in 19 vs 20

In general it seems ratings are lower in 20 than 19.
ie
Tony Armas is 85 RF in 20 and 91 in 19 for year 1981

Because it would be boring as heck to have all the same cards every year?

New year, new ratings.

We have made changes to how we import ratings this year. The largest difference is the historical error rating we have fixed some import issues, so guys will tend to even out more there (in 19 too many historical players had absolutely horrible error ratings).

Otherwise, we have also made adjustments to overall calculations. Some players that's only a minor tweak (maybe a guy goes from a 79 to an 81), some players it's obviously more major (guys like Ichiro moved from a 69 up to the mid-80s for some of his cards).

Babe Ruth needs 100+ contact rating.... he's simply the best hitter in history and without going into too many details, his contact is below some players that were clearly inferior in BA.....

He's a .342 career Avg!

thx - So Brett Butler 1991 card
2019 base running 32 to 59 in 2020.
I alwasy thought 2019 rating was bad. What would have made this change?
His L/R splits also changed.

Would some ratings change based on the overall pool of players?
How does this effect the non perfect team players ratings?
Are they also changing?
Is everything in 2020 more accurate?

still confused on rating changes

19 - Alvin Dark 1951 = 78

20 - Alvin Dark 1951 = 89
His contact and power improved 2 pts
His Position rating went from SS 64 to SS 79
Error from 26 to 63 and all other elemets increased 2 pts

For some reason his baserunning went from 63 to 29

So it seems more than error ratings are changing??

Why did you create another thread? I thought you just created one to discuss rating changes?

Keep it all together in one thread, please.

As mentioned, there are multiple changes.
-Sometimes we get new historical data, or change the algorithms for historical data, which can explain running changes, for example
-Error rating algorithm was re-done, hence those ratings be very different
-Overall rating has also been modified, mostly to give a larger boost to good defensive players.

So for Dark, maybe the improved error rating/defense naturally moved him from a 78 to a low-80s player, and then the change to how overall factors in defense moved him up more.

Basically, it's a new game, with lots of changes, so some players will change by more than others.

Weren't Peak cards changed to reflect ratings highs in 20 and not the ratings averages as it did in 19 (except a few late additions)?

Yes, Peak cards are calculated differently in OOTP 20 (outside of the last handful we introduced in 19 as a test)
