So tempting but I defer to Westheim on this one

Huh? Me? I got nothing.
Much like Harvey on the fastball. (little monkey in the corner hits the ba-dam-ching on his drums)

Congratulations to Cespedes for doubling the value of the infield by simply sliding into second base.

The Atlanta series was brutal. Time to regroup catch a few breaks and get on the phone looking for another starting pitcher

And I am sure that somebody picks him up and tries to turn him around, probably a team already in the gutter with negligible pitching. Orioles? Reds? Royals? White Sox? At this point, the risk is $530k and the reward could be decent.

Well, I won't say it's all over for him - he is only 29 - but he's done in New York, one of the glamor towns that seemed such a fit for his oversized personality and what seemed like huge potential to be one of the greats. I forget what happened to him, so I looked it up. He had TJ surgery in 2014 but was still good in 2015 when he came back. Then he got this thoracic outlet syndrome the following year. That seems to be what did him in.

You guys are not going to appreciate hearing this, but what a great game baseball is. Harvey is just yet another example.
Why? Because baseball is unpredictable; baseball is humbling; and baseball is exalting. It's not just talent, as we know. It's also guts and luck. I am saying this because just after I posted above, I hopped over to MLB.com to start up my MLB.tv for the evening and they are talking about Kerry Wood over there. 20 years ago this Sunday, in his rookie season, Wood threw that 20 strikeout, one-hit shutout of the Astros in Wrigley Field "which some have argued may be the greatest single-game pitching performance in MLB history." The highest game score in history according to this source. Yet Wood was another guy felled by injuries, humbled and made mediocre by baseball. What a great game. Sorry, you Mets fans. I feel your pain a bit.

I remember seeing the highlights of that Kerry Wood game the day it happened man his stuff was unbelievable breaking pitches moving twice on the way to the plate

Funny thing. While I wouldn't mind if explosive diarrhea felled most of the Nationals' roster, I actually still like Scherzer. Must be the differently colored eyes. He looks like a husky waiting for a treat while he emaciates your team. And who doesn't like huskies? Also, dear magic #8 ball, will the Mets ever win again? - (shakes ball) - "Don't count on it" Welp.

They were physically present, so it counts!
As present as during the Braves series.

No, no, deGrom is fine. He will make his next start.
Meanwhile deGrom has been moved to the DL, with P.J. Conlon taking his start on Monday. DeGrom will definitely start Sunday against the Phillies. Well, here is more of Conlon, with Jacob deGrom not activated from the DL for this Sunday start. Meanwhile we hear that Jacob deGrom could resume baseball activities as early as ten days from now. It is really a standard procedure, and deGrom could start throwing again as early as the middle of July. Well, with the Mets at 38-66, there is really no reason to risk anything with Jacob deGrom, who was moved to the 60-day DL yesterday. There is a chance that deGrom will come back in late September, as long as the inflation goes down. While the Mets are trundling towards their 102nd loss here, we got word from the front office that they expect Jacob deGrom to be back and 100% by Spring Training. As we wait for a Rookie Leaguer to make the final out in this 11-0 drubbing at the hands of the Cardinals, we are relieved to tell you that deGrom's amputation surgery two weeks ago was a full success. The Mets are expected to wear a sleeve patch in his memory as soon as the regular season starts. +++ Oh, to be a Mets fan.
