Expansion Draft Contracts

This could very well be how it is in the real MLB but this happened in my save and I thought it was a bit unfortunate for the AI, if nothing else.

MLB Historical, it's the offseason after the 1997 season. On 10/27, P Burba informs me that he's opting out of the second and final year of his contract with my team and becoming a free agent. So for the expansion draft on 10/28, I obviously leave him off of my protected list. Burba gets drafted #1 overall to Tampa Bay. Three weeks later, he becomes a free agent - so essentially, Tampa Bay wasted their first pick. Burba ended up signing with St. Louis in January.

Like I said, maybe this is how it works in the MLB and contract status was something that real teams had to keep an eye on - but as for a storyline, I'll pretend Burba took one look at Tropicana Field and said no way haha.

I think this has to do with the draft being before FA file. I do know that with the modern quick start it had been fixed to have the Expansion Draft 2 days after the Free Agent Filings to avoid these picks.
