"Automatic Resign"

Ok, I know I've seen questions asked about this before, but I can't find them. Here goes:

I have about 10 young players in the Majors who, in the Player Salaries page, are listed as "automatic resigns." When i try to go resign them for the MLB minimum, though, they say, "that's not enough money!" Is that the way I'm supposed to do it? Or does the game actually automatically resign these guys at the end of the season.

The reason i ask is that, of course, I don't want to lose some of these guys. Also, a few seasons ago (when I had only OOTP6) a guy had "auto resign" on him and he turned out to be a FA after the season! I now have 6.5, so if it is different please let me know.

ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Yes, they automatically re-sign for 3 service years in the MLB (172 days=1 Year). After that, they are automatically arbitrated unless you have turned arbitration off. They become FAs after 6 years of service.

also to add on to this - since they are auto resign it is of no use for you to give them a contract extension yet. Take the cheap $300K salary again next season.

Most likely he was 1) in the minors 2) not on the 40-man roster 3) he had more than 6 years of pro-service and 4) you had minor league FA turned on.

If all of the above were fulfilled, then he becomes FA.

Eh, it was Merkin Valdez in, like, 2004. I don't believe anything except being in the minors was met at that time.

well, when using 3rd party roster sets the service time can be messed up on a lot of players - depending on whose files you used.
