My idea for a next version roster set

Last year when NCAA football came out for xbox, 360 and the other platforms, the usual suspects who took the time to name every player in the game, and create freshman who were not included, were too busy making rosters for the next gen systems. It would have taken at least 2 weeks to finsih them, not to mention the fact that real life precludes them from spending every available minute typing in player names.

Faced with this, a small group of posters to the message board began a plan to begin the work themselves and email the file on to the next person when either their part was complete or they had some other obligation. They would do a small write-up on what they finished, and what they still needed to do. Sometimes the next in line would finsih their work, if they had the time. Their was a sign up thread with the "roster" of whose turn it was, as well as the next few people who were on deck. Using this method, the set took about 3 days, which was much quicker than it would have been had the usual roster makers started on the xbox rosters from the start.

This accomplished a few things. It gave everyone involved the satisfaction of working on it, getting some sense of ownership and accomplishment. ALso, when the roster was finished, the more seasoned roster gurus had a pretty complete template to go in and customize the rosters even further with out taking up all the initial time to name players. It also helped strengthen a sense of community within the board.

I am not sure how the roster makers here make their sets, if they do it in game or in an outside program that gets re imported. But I think for next year this could be something this community can accomplish also.

What would need to be done is to have a set standard for player evaluation and how to reflect this in the ratings. But even if we did not take it that far, and just went through and named young players, putting in the correct salaries, trades, height, weight, pitch types I think this would really speed up the process. The file could be emailed around to different forum members, allowing them to get as much done as their time allows

The second thing this would do is free up the modders here who want to rate and evaluate all team prospects. They would have time to plan it out and mess around with the game to see how things are going to shape up.

This post is in NO WAY meant to criticize or diminish the efforts of people who have donated their free time and helped to make the game better for everyone here. Or is it intended to be a place where people can vent saying they offered their services and it was not accepted.

It is meant to begin discussions of ways to help make the roster creatioin process streamlined, and hopefully helping make some of the roster gurus here life easier and keep them out of the hospital. And a way to spread out some of the grunt work over a large portion of people. Especially as the game gets more complex with each new version.

Any ideas going forward?
