Semi historical 1890-2016
I haven't done a dynasty in a long while, so thought I would give one a shot
It will be historical, but with my usual twist...semi modernized stats. I take the years (say 1902-04) average out the stats, then add it to the stats of around the modern era and divide by 2 giving an updated set of stats, but not too updated. Dead ball era players should not hit 60HR, but they should hit more than 10...the top guys tend to 35 in my revisions. I started in 1890 to have a wider selection of particularily pitchers to make 5 man rotations. When I start in 1871 I never get far into the game, but now find 1890 is a good year for me to start historical games in. NO historical minors, just MLB players (I may do another dynasty later that includes the negro stars- updated, or use the spritze DB, but for now just the MLB guys for this one) Oops forgot to mention that all teams will be in 1 LEAGUE. There will be the normal expansion and team moves through history...but I hate 2 seperate leagues, so they are in one giant 162 game season league. 4 teams make the playoffs. I use 5 man rotations. Most everything else is as you would expect it I guess. The game starts in 1890, but the first 9 years are basically just for player stats Then will go in 3 year segments, such as 1899-1901. Players go to the team they had a debut with (no draft) In the first year of each 3 year segment. I will make trades to move star players to the teams they really came on. Thus Reggie Jackson for example will be with Oakland for 1974-76 (he doesn't have his one year of Baltimore. Then in 1977 I move him to NYY. He stays there till 1983 (instead of 1982 due to the 3 year rule). I will not move every player, just stars who were key to teams in a 3 year period, but they have to be traded. So the Yankees will have to give Oakland something to get Jackson for example. Finances on, but never will be free agency, only reserve clause. No injuries...but players who would be too good in a year they played few games will be given and injury that year. Say Mike Donlin will get a few early on. Recalc is on. Players can play on past their final year. I also have to watch the dreaded OOTP superstar, who has his final MLB carreer year a star on, Say Bill Kiester as an example. Then would stay as a .340 hitter until he is 40. So every 3 year segment I go looking for those type of players to give them a downgrade of stats. Real managers will appear in the years they did in real life. I will post in 9 year segments. So once I finish 1899-1907 I will post the updates, year by year summaries and what not. More just sim and go and see what sort of results I get. If I forgot something will come back and add it here later. First few post spaces are reserved for stats Last edited by sprague; 06-09-2017 at 11:40 AM. |

How I set up the modifiers. Say the years 1904-07 which i just did. I get per game averages from Baseball Reference as such
The second line is them modified with modern equivalents at a ratio of 6-4 Ie Hr was 6X 0.12, plus 4X 1.10. Divide by 10 and it comes to .51 Then i covert to a league with 165300 at bats, and the values are below. 1904-07 Avg, 2b, 3b, hr, w, hbp, k .247, 111, 42, 12, 241, 32, 365 .254 134 33 51 264 25 519 41990 620 1600 2480 12840 1215 25222 |

Champions 1899-1907
1910 New York Giants (McGraw) over Detroit (Hatfield) 4-2 Buck Herzog WS Mvp 1909 Cincinati Reds (Arden) over Philadelphia Athletics (Mack) 4-2 Bob Bescher WS Mvp 1908 Chicago Cubs (Frangione) over Giants (McGraw) 4-3 Three Finger Brown WS Mvp 1907 Philadelphia Athletics (Mack) 1906 Philadelphia Athletics (Mack) 1905 New York Giants (McGraw) 1904 New York Giants (McGraw) 1903 Boston Red Sox (Wightman) 1902 Philadelphia Athletics (Mack) 1901 Pittsburgh Pirates (Janveau) 1900 Pittsburgh Pirates (Janveau) 1899 Brooklyn Dodgers (Frangione) The 9 year period of 1899-1907 was dominated by 3 teams. The Philadelphia Athletics with their big 3 pitching staff of Waddell, Plank and Bender. Rube Waddell with the strikeout boost becomes a beast. The New York Giants are the most well rounded team, while the Pirates have some great years then some average years. They have the player of the 9 year period, the being Honus Wagner. Wow he was good. Last edited by sprague; 06-11-2017 at 04:17 PM. |

The two current stars. Rube Waddell and Honus Wagner. Look at that 27 win year by Waddell, in a 5 man staff. Wow.

Will post again after the next 9 year period in 1916.
Ty Cobb should now take over the show, as should Walter Johnson...but the Giants and Athletics still might be the super star teams. We shall see. |
