Re-create, re-imagine history with Negro Leagues feature in 'OOTP Baseball 18'

Quote:
The history of the Negro leagues is both a reminder of a dark period in American history and a celebration of baseball’s enormous popularity during the first half of the 20th century. Baseball fans know well the many players who are part of Negro league lore: Satchel Paige. Josh Gibson. Cool Papa Bell. Roy Campanella and, of course, Jackie Robinson.

"Out of the Park Baseball 18" seeks to explore this area of baseball history in ways never seen before by adding the most prominent Negro leagues to its historical simulation feature, enabling fans to not only replay that era but also engage in intriguing scenarios such as ending the color barrier sooner.

Matt or someone. Question.

Can I have the negro league players appearing without having all the historical minors active.
I would want to just draft players up into my own minor league format. Or if I want these historical players year by year must all the actual minor leagues be active.

Thanks.

One thing I've mentioned a couple of times before, could a colour barrier type mechanic be used in fictional leagues in future to simulate something like a league banning South African players during Apartheid?

I'm aware that there are perhaps issues of taste with stuff like that (and I'm assuming that's why we can't do a what if keeping the colour barrier post '46), but I think it would be interesting.

I have to ask: now that the Negro Leagues are being introduced--and a color barrier along with them--will we finally get the option to limit personnel movement between leagues? I've used Negro Leagues in my fictional-historical leagues for years, and its always bothered me that a guy could be managing the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1932, the Kansas City Monarchs in 1936, and the Chicago White Sox in 1939. Or, as you move later into history, that an American manager could go from an MLB team in the 1960s to managing in Castro's Cuba in the '70s, and then finally on to the *** in Japan, for example. We've had the "Allow Free Agents to Leave League" and "Allow Free Agents From Other Leagues" options for years, and I'd love to see similar options added for personnel, too...

Yeah... What if I want to prolong it in historical?

In historical you can proshort the barrier but not prolong it.

Shouldn't be too hard to code a way to prolong it. The main issue would be listing the ethnicity of every player to ever play the game.

I understand the logic here. it kind of seems wrong to want to prolong it. It's a shameful part of baseball history. I'm glad that users will be able to shorten the barrier.

I can't say i'd support having it turned on in fictional either. I would find it very distasteful to read a dynasty report about segregated leagues in a modern fictional league. I can imagine it could cause a lot of controversy too if the wrong people saw it. Can you imagine Al Sharpton taking up cause with OOTP because there's leagues where black people are banned from? It would be madness.

I love playing around with crazy scenarios...like one team of only Canadians or Cubans for example. .that doesn't mean i have anything against other nationalities. Its a sensitive issue, and with the mlb lisence and the media being the media, I guess it's a smart move to make the restriction not able to prolong.

You can still make your own.

I am in 1959 in my game and the Seattle Steelheads are Negro only and Havana is only Cubans and Mexico City is only Mexicans and Honolulu is only Asians and so on.

Can I confirm the barrier is a league setting rather than global? For instance can I create a competing major league which is integrated from the start or are all MLs blocked together?

Can we play with Negro leagues only? I tend to get more immersed in smaller scenarios and think it would be great fun to just revisit the Negro leagues without the whole background of the Major Leagues and all their associated minors.

I did advise against this, as a feature like this could easily be brought in a negative direction. For those of us who love fictional leagues - including myself - this would be an unique feature; however, I don't like the option of including a button which would allow racism in modern day. If this is ever included, it should be put to a stop shortly after negro leagues.

There should be no option to play with the barrier into modern times, only shorten it.
