One of my favourite Brewers, Jean Segura!
(Who I’m both happy & sad has made a good career since leaving Milwaukee )

He should have been the 2nd player to wear a Mets cap in the HOF. But Cooperstown has him in an Expos cap! Very well. A catcher you did NOT want to go one on one with! You're running down the 3rd base line and you see this guy blocking the plate! "Thou shalt see the promised land but thou shalt NOT enter!!!" RIP "The Kid" Gary Carter

One week to go. Unfortunately, No. 7 is a bit of a wasteland, as far as the Reds are concerned. Perfect Team god Smoky Burgess wore it for the Redlegs, but unfortunately I can't find a picture of him displaying the number.
This guy didn't wear 7... But he did name his kid Seven. What's interesting about 7 is the number of famous people who wore it, but that you associate with a different number. And they usually wore 7 with a different team, or when they first broke in. Guys like this guy. You might know him in No. 24 or No. 25: Or him. No. 11 is already otherwise engaged by the White Sox, so J-Roll had to go with a different number: But probably my favorite No. 7 memory was when I saw Kevin Mitchell, the Fat Boy himself, break up a perfect game by, of all things, beating out an infield single. Seriously. That dude beat out an infield single, deep in the hole to short. I can see it in my mind's eye like it was yesterday.

4x All-Star, 1 Silver Slugger and a Batting Title! Lifetime .283 AVG. and from 2003-2005, led the NL in stolen bases! Do I put him in the HOF? No. Maybe the Hall of the Very Good? Not sure, but he could be close. Definitely one of the best shortstops the Mets have had. Jose Reyes

How about a trip back to the 40's n 50's? Anyone remember this Pesky little fella by the name of Johnny? Sorry can't see the number, but this pose at the top of the dugout steps is classic. |

Former Red, former Phillie, Bo Diaz putting one over on a fellow catcher...
Here's a photo of Bo with the Reds. And in keeping with the theme of yesterday's post about players you don't associate with the number 7 wearing the number 7, there's Barry Larkin, wearing...15???

No awards, no batting titles or anything. But no matter what anyone says, the 1986 NY Mets do not have that magical season without this guy batting after Lenny Dykstra in the top of the order! Should be a manager in the Majors and I still think he will get his chance! Wally Backman
