Injured Relievers Getting Big Contracts
Have been seeing more and more relievers that go into free agency with severe injuries, coming out with hugely favorable deals for themselves.
This is the fourth time in the past two seasons in my save where I've seen this. How can this be normal? This time it was 32 year-old Blake Treinen who posted a bad year and blew out his elbow; only to be given a $22M/3yr contract. He'll be out for the entire first year of that deal. I hate that's even a thing, "legacy issues". Like, if an issue has existed for a long time, work on the dang thing. This isn't Madden. OOTP isn't EA.
(I'm not calling you out for using the term, I'm just saying it's dumb people even allowed it to exist) |

I mean it depends on the team's revenue. Throwing 7-8 million for one year to 100% get him the next 2 years isn't that bad of a deal. If its a quality player.
RP seems to last pretty long for the most part. Its not absolutely awful. As he won't be on the 40 man all year but the 60 day dl. I can go either way. Now if its a small revenue team doing then most likely its 100% broken. |

oh c'monn you dont want to pay 15M per 1 war?
:P heck it may be >salary per 1 war based on last couple years even if you extrapolate out to a full season's workload. not that i ever base any meaningful decision on war, lol... that's like depending on the overall rating of a player -- insanity! Last edited by NoOne; 04-08-2019 at 09:23 PM. |

A particularly egregious example of this just occurred in my fictional league. A starting pitcher who is effectively out for the entire season with an injury signed a two-year deal with an AI team where the second year is a vesting option that has zero chance of vesting. The $10 million for the first year (which makes him the third-highest player on the team) is just money down the drain. After the first year he'll just be a free agent again.
I think I'm going to edit the contract in this case to the league minimum for the first year. |

Wow. Just...wow. That's about the most incredible thing I've seen in this game, and I have a .058 winning percentage in games that I play, so that's saying something! |
