Forging a New History

Inspired by my own, unshared endeavours, as well as those of @George_Bell, and @TigerFan, I have decided to endeavour on a historical replay, starting in the 1917-18 season. I will be using the FHM development engine, and drafting players at 17. Hopefully this will be enjoyable for all of you to follow. I am also hoping to add in a few little gimmicks to spice the game up, such as a selection process for players to miss time for WW2, random players leaving for the WHA, and Soviet/Czech players coming into the NHL.

1917-18 Season

Season Story
The historic first ever NHL goal was scored by Ken Randall of the Toronto Arenas at 2:34 of the first period at Westmount Arena, as the Arenas massacred the Wanderers 12-1.

The Wanderers bore the brunt for the entire season, with Ottawa and Toronto duking it out as the middle teams, and the Canadiens running away with the league.

Newsy Lalonde missed 9 games with a massive injury to his eye. He will likely miss the playoffs as well. The forward had 17 goals in first 15 games, a huge blow to Les Canadiens season.

Eddie Lowry and Morley Bruce were the subject of controversy in Ottawa, when they broke the team rules regarding drinking, and were fined and reprimanded by the organization in the media.

Cy Denneny's 7 point effort against the Montreal Wanderers in an 8-3 win was the greatest individual performance of the season.

1918 Stanley Cup Final

The Montreal Canadiens face the Vancouver Millionaires. The Millionaires boast a lineup featuring stars such as Hugh Lehman, Mickey MacKay, Odie Cleghorn, and best of all, Cyclone Taylor.

Montreal takes Game 1 with a 2-1 win, thanks to goals from Arbour and Smith.

Game 2 is a thrilling 3-2 OT win for the Canadiens, with Corbeau scoring the winner.

In a do or die game, the Millionaires force OT, but cannot win on home ice, as the Canadiens take it 4-3, and win the Stanley Cup. The winner was scored by Sprague Cleghorn.

1918-19 Season

Season Story
Influenza broke out in the NHL, afflicting stars Alf Barbour, Newsy Lalonde, Jack McDonald, and Dick Irvin in February. Thankfully all four survived their bout with the disease.

Cy Denneny set a new NHL record with 4 goals in a game against the Toronto Arenas, in a 9-6 victory!

Otherwise, the season saw the Canadiens at the top, the Senators at the bottom, and the Arenas smack dab in the middle.
