Too young, far too young.

Saw this young man turn in a solid performance in what would be his next-to-last start, five innings of shutout ball against the Cardinals on Sunday, June 23 at Busch Stadium.
The Angels won 6-4, but all the Cardinals runs came in the ninth inning on what was the final night of Pujolsfest.
Back on June 18, 2002, I was there when Darryl Kile made his final MLB start in a 7-2 win over the Angels.
Joe Buck came on KMOX during the drive home to tell the world that his father, Cardinals legendary broadcaster Jack Buck, had died not long after the game ended following a long series of illnesses.
Four days later, Kile would be found dead in a Chicago hotel room the morning before a Saturday afternoon Game of the Week against the Cubs.
The untimely loss of Mr. Skaggs brought back memories of what was a very rough week here in Cardinal Nation.
Skaggs seemed to be a pitcher who was beginning to find his potential and was a great teammate, as well as having just gotten married.
In my mind, hopefully, DK was there to greet him at the gates and take him on to whatever awaits him next until those he loves can join him.

Pretty sad to see that he was responsible for his own death. At least he didn't take other people with him.

Yeah it was a surprise to hear that today. Still a sad event for a young man, but a different feel to what was presumed to be natural causes of some sort.

Addiction is a disease. I feel no different about it. It is too bad that opiates and alcohol destroyed another young life. And despite his money and fame, drug abuse in sports is still stigmatized and make it harder for athletes to get the help they need.

Without wanting to start a longer (complicated) discussion - I do agree with you about addiction being a disease, though I don't think it absolves personal responsibility either.

Again, no matter the circumstance, Tyler Skaggs losing his life is a tragedy.
