Best Starters
Who would you say are the top 10 pitchers in this game? Are 100 cards like C. Sale and J. deGrom top 10?

From what I have seen, the Randy Johnson card has been the best.

Here's my list. I certainly could have missed someone, but these are all among the leaders.

I agree about Randy. It seems like a crapshoot every season. One season you have a ace the next the ace is a two of spades. It is so hard having a dependable rotation going from season to season. Luckily I guess it is like that for everyone. 🤷*♂️

Perfect Pedro is the best in the game. 2018 Live cards are generally well inferior to historical cards for the most part but are available for much cheaper. DeGrom and Sale will do well up to diamond but in perfect leagues...you'll likely need better.

I may be over-rating Feller and Gooden but they have the highest stuff rating that I have seen. However, they also have poor control.
P.S. Dazzy Vance (96) also has 126 stuff. Last edited by Orcin; 01-07-2019 at 10:54 AM. |

I put together a model the predicts FIP based on STF/MOV/CON ratings. There is some negative bias since I used data from all leagues (I plan to revise the model using just Perfect League data once there is enough), but the rank order seems spot on. So far, the Top 10 SP cards I've seen per the model are:
1) 100 Pedro (best by a mile) 2) 97 Pedro 3) 97 Carl Hubbell 4) 96 Cy Young 5) 96 Kevin Brown 6) 100 Doc Gooden 7) 96 Walter Johnson 8) 96 Mark Prior 9) 100 Randy Johnson 10) 93 Greg Maddux This comes with the caveat that there are some good cards out there I don't have the ratings for -- 100 Maddux, 97 Cy Seymour, 96 Dazzy Vance, 95 Matt Harvey, etc. Last edited by ASURay; 01-07-2019 at 11:00 AM. |

I have that Hubbell at #11.
I have Brown, Prior, and the 93 Maddux all rated lower, but I must admit that those pitchers continually appear among the leaders in real performance measurements. I think your model is better than mine. |

I have MOV as the most important rating by a fairly wide margin. I think MOV gets underrated sometimes and STUFF is a bit overrated. I'll see how things change once I have two seasons worth of Perfect League data to pull from. Would be easier if I had access to all the PL data but I'll have to get by just using the career stats from whichever players happen to be in my current league.

I don't know about perfect Pedro, but my Dwight Gooden has been an absolute beast for me.
In five seasons he has 4 Triple Crowns, 4 Cy Youngs and 4 MVP Titles. Last edited by moalkha; 01-07-2019 at 11:39 AM. |

Someone in my online league has a Perfect Pedro. He runs >275 K, < 25 BB, and <10 HRA every year. Always a sub-2.50 ERA/FIP and wins the Triple Crown every season.

I have Blanton at #24 of the SP cards I've seen so far. I'm missing a few that are prb better (100 Maddux, 95 Harvey, etc.) and didn't do all the diamond SPs in the 90-92 range. Some of those might be better, but prb not.

Where do you have Spud rated? That's the next card I really want to have.
If for no other reason than his father went by "Bud" and I've called my son either "Spud" or "Bud" throughout his growth through his childhood. |

Where would you put 97 Randy Johnson and 96 Mike Scott in the rankings? I just got moved up to Perfect today, but my rotation is those 2, Sale, Syndergaard and Severino so I think I will be getting lit up. I'm at work until 8pm tonight so I think I will be in for a very poor record when I get home tonight. LOL

My best starters are the ones that actually win more than they lose.
