Pretty much the same for me. I have the Flaherty Future Legends card, and it is really nice.

Unfortunately, it looks like I will be promoted to diamond after a 77-85 season. I doubt that I will do well there.

I hadn't even won a playoff game in prior seasons, either losing the one wild card game or missing playoffs entirely. that includes the beta where I always seemed to be a wildcard team

won my divison this season, and swept the first playoff series.

starting pitching was my strength all season. made it to the silver league world series, and playing against a team that was clearly better than mine (on paper), my starting pitching collapsed

luckily, my batters more than made up for it. just swept the series, champs!

15-13 (came back from 11-3 deficit after 5 innings)
8-5
6-3
9-8

dunno who the series MVP was, but my playoff MVP was clearly Dave Winfield .431 8HR 18RBI

Silver linings in the Gold .284 league...

The team that knocked me out in the conference semi 3-2 (I was up 2-0 before blowing it) ended up winning the WS 4-1 over a stacked Wolf team. So I guess that's a plus at least.

But... I kicked arse at the awards banquet.

Won a gold glove at 2B.

Won silver sluggers at CF and RF.

Won the reliever of the year.

Got 1st and 2nd place in MVP voting. That's gotta be somewhat rare.

Would have traded it all for a Series title... but hey.

Just wanted to share that my Monterey Bay Whales won the B251 league for our first championship. What's amazing is that by just getting and opening standard packs, I ended up with the following great players:

Hank Aaron - 1959
Lou Gehrig - `1931
Stan Musial - 1943
Babe Ruth - 1921
Tris Speaker - Peak
Wilbur Wood - 1971
Kevin Brown - 1998
Billy Wagner - 1999

Of the modern players, I have:
Francisco Lindor
Nolan Arenado
Trevor Story

This team went 103-59 and 11-3 in the playoffs to win it all. Finished 1st in all offensive categories except OBP where it finished 2nd. Finished 3rd in runs against, 2nd in starter ERA and 6th in bullpen era.

Ready to move up to a silver league and see what this amazing collection of players can do at the next level.

BTW, the amazing thing is that almost all of these players were acquired in opening standard packages, not gold packages. So, you don't have to open gold packages to get great players. Maybe I just got really lucky but every time I landed these great historical players and modern players, I got a kick out of opening these standard packages

On to the next level to see what this collection of players can do.

Thanks. Almost all of these were from selling (not through an auction, just straight selling cards enough to have 1000 PP to purchase a standard pack. I got some gold cards worth 1000 PP that were duplicates so I sold those off and bought more standard packs. I really didn't expect to get such good cards in the standard packs as I thought I would only get the top cards if I bought gold packs

Congrats to the Melrose Red Raiders in the Silver .268 League! It was fun, and I learned a few things. See you next season ~

Standard packs and gold packs have the same odds for top cards (above gold). The only difference is 1 guaranteed bronze vs 1 guaranteed gold.

Also if you pulled all those cards without spending money I might cry. Have spent $60 myself on packs and never pulled anything good. Just 1 low diamond worth the minimum 4k

OK, you're luck is just too funny! Sorry, it's kind of cruel to say that, but it's been an entertaining read.

I tip my cap to Perugia in G301. You knocked me out of the playoffs. You beat the "Big Train" twice in the series. He was MVP and Pitcher of the Year. It was a fun great year. Good luck in Diamond.

My signature links to my dynasty thread, where there is almost 51 seasons' worth of exactly that sort of "luck". Expect the worst - get the worst! From our most recent series against the Indianapolis Indians, picking it up from a 1-0 deficit in the sixth inning:

Quote:
None of this made the Coons less of a wretched bunch, but Spencer led off the bottom 6th with a single that dropped in front of Siebuhr, then swiped second base. Gomez, the hot paw of the week (hey, at least one!) lined a ball near the leftfield line that didn't get past Siebuhr, but was still good enough for Spencer to score the tying run on the single. Kevin Harenberg dropped in a bloop single, and then the runners advanced to scoring position with nobody out on a passed ball charged to Dear with Hereford at the plate, who was then put on intentionally. OH YOU SNEAKY ARROWHEADS!! They knew exactly how to beat the Coons – by giving them three on and nobody out! YOU SONS OF – ARE YOU ****ING SERIOUS?? Mora popped out. Nunley popped out. Rocha popped out. Somewhere in between, I also felt a vein in my left temple pop as I screamed insults from my office above the field. Worse, I got a cramp in my arm from shaking the clenched fist so much and had to seek treatment from the Druid in the depths of the ballpark. Oh well, at least I missed the two 2-out runs the Indians scored off Delgadillo in the eighth on singles by Pizano and Dear, in between which Delgadillo kept fanning the flames rather than the batters with a walk to Zanches. I came back to my office, smelling like squeezed rat puss from the ointment the Druid had rubbed onto my sore arm, probably because it WAS squeezed rat puss, just in time for the bottom 9th where Mo Robinson had the tying runs on the corners with nobody out. Oooh, exciting – how were they going to **** up THIS one!?

You're not understanding how it works.
In the gold pack you pay 5000 for 1 gold card, plus 5 chances at good cards.
In the standard pack you pay 1000 for 1 bronze card, plus 5 chances at good cards.
So if you spend 5000 on each, you have 25 chances for a good card with 5 standard packs or 5 chances with 1 gold pack.

The only reason to buy a gold pack is when you start out and need a guarantee you'll get a gold. It's a good way to build a solid team quick. But if you really have a lot to spend, go standard any time.

As it is, it sounds like you had above average luck with the standard packs. Do you recall how many you opened to assemble the lineup you mention?

I just can't do the packs. I just need to upgrade certain positions with certain attributes. The packs are just gambling and uncertainty.

But what do I know? In my 1st 8 seasons I made the playoffs 6 times and won 5 championships.

A lot. I don't know the number but I was continually selling my $25 and $5 cards I was getting to build up enough to purchase a standard pack. I did start off paying about $50 and purchased quite a few gold packs but the players like Ruth, Aaron, Musial, Lindor, Arenado, Wagner, Brown all came in standard packs, not gold packs. Story came in a gold pack and I must have gotten at least 5 Trevor Storys in those gold packs so I immediately sold 4 of them and bought 4 standard packs. I have never gotten a player from the auction block simply because the good players cost more than I was willing to pay. I've been able to get many standard packs through winning PP from awards along with selling cards at their standard PP to build up enough PP to purchase more standard packs.

You are right that I didn't understand how the packs worked. My dismal performance the first two seasons for my team shows that but I kept getting rid of players, even top players like Goldschmidt who didn't perform well to purchase more standard packs until I got the team I now have. Certainly the long way around to building a winning team but I got there nonetheless.
