And if you look at the author of the post about Rusie & Mathewson, you might get a hint as to which trade Questdog claims was the worst of all time.....

One of the best trades ever! I'm biased since i am a Sox fan but Sammy Sosa was not potentially on steroids while with the Sox and was still very raw at the time. Bell filled the void left by the departure of Baines after '89 and we needed a left handed bat to hit 4th who was better then Ventura to hit behind Thomas. We had a chance at winning the AL West in 1992, Oakland dominated that year.

Bell batted right-handed, IIRC.....

This is what I get for trying to quickly scan threads at times when I don't quite have time to read the whole thing...

The correct answer is Ken Phelps for Jay Buhner. YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL YOU'RE DOING

Just about the worst trade in Braves history was sending a very young Brett Butler, Brook Jacoby and Rick Behena to the Indians for Len Barker....until we sent Justin Upton away for a box of rocks anyway.

Trading Marquis Grissom and David Justice for one year of Kenny Lofton and, emm, I think it was Alan Embree.

Trading Kevin Millwood for Jonny Estrada.

But my favourite was this sequence of trades:

We traded Adam LaRoche for Mike Gonzalez.

Then 6 months later realized you actually do need someone to play first base, and traded the entire farm for Mark Texeira.

Then a year later could somehow only get Casey Kotchman for Mark Teixeira.

After which the Angels just let Teixeira walk and drafted some guy named Trout with the sandwich pick they got after the Yankees signed him.

And finally we traded Casey Kotchman for.... Adam LaRoche.

And thus, we trraded the entire farm, including Andrus, Saltalamacchia, and Feliz, plus in a way the pick that netted Mike Trout... for Mike Freaking Gonzalez.

We also traded Adam Wainright for one season of J.D. Drew....he had a good year though. That Wainright guy sorta panned out.

Yeah, that one gets left off simply because Drew had an almost MVP-caliber season that year.

Which was funny, really. He came in with the rep of a guy no one could get to play regularly, who would sit out for every tiny little thing, And early in the season, we had exactly that same problem. Until the point when we had roughly half of our offense out (I wish I could recall who all it was... Furcal, Chipper, and Andruw, perhaps? It was something like 3 of the first four hitters in the lineup, anyway), and J.D. wanted to take a week off at the same time because he said he had a sore neck on one side from swimming in a lake.

In an event really quite unusual for the Cox-era Braves, who liked to keep things in the clubhouse and out of the papers, half of the team called him out in the press, and he suddenly started playing again. And ended up at season's end with more games played than in any season in his career up to that point. Not sure if he ever had more after that in any season, either, but I don't think so.

The smoltz deal was bad bcuz in hindsight u knew u would be bad for 20 years. Think of the package you could get for John Smoltz after about 5-10 years later, IN HIS PRIME. Maybe jumpstart the rebuild a little?

More recent, but Pedro for deshields. I can't find the quote, but I do remember something about Pedro was not going to amount to anything. I mean who wouldn't want Pedro at his peak??

That one hurt. When that trade was made I thought we were getting a potential superstar 2nd baseman, for hard throwing reliever who was too small to be a starter, or have a long career.

July 19, 2000: Traded by the Toronto Blue Jays Micheal Young, Darwin Cubillan to the Texas Rangers for Esteban Loaiza.

Im sorry but we Have been looking for a 2b ever since I mean Aaron Hill was ok but It wasn't like we had 2 specs in waiting ( reason we didnt draft Troy Toulowiski) He was what was waiting 2005 could have been a great year.

I am actually hoping they trade Verlander in the next season or 2 for he isn't the same ever since he threw his arm out when he started at all star game. He finally admitted it during the off season the following year but I noticed it right away (has witnesses) I would want value while I can get it.
