My Canadian Hockey League

Hey everyone, I took inspiration from Pwal's fictional Canadian Hockey (https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=258959) League jerseys and decided to try to make my own.

The Canadian Hockey League
March, 1990

In 1990 a conference was held inviting around 15 businesses & 80 prominent canadian philanthropists and businessmen to begin talks of creating a new hockey league to fill the void of the lack of professional senior leagues in smaller markets in Canada. After the conference the majority decided to begin planning & launch the league in two years naming Thomas Dubois as the league’s first President.

The league structure was decided within the following months with the Canadian Hockey League being the main league with the Federal Hockey League as a farm league & a somewhat controversial decision was made by creating the Canadian Junior Hockey League, a feeder junior league in which only the Junior players who play in the league will be eligible in the CHL draft.

For the inaugural season if the game ended in a tie there would be 10 minute overtimes & if there were no winners there would be a tie.

In 1991 the inaugural 8 teams were announced:

The Saskatoon Stallions
The Quebec Citadelles
The Montreal Machine
The Winnipeg Thunder
The Vancouver Rockies
Halifax Schooners
Ottawa Renegades
Calgary Outlaws

The initial dispersal draft would be held on July second, 1992 recruiting free agents from all around the globe to fill the league with talent.

On June 17, 1992, Alexandre Papineau became the first CHL player ever signing with the Quebec Citadelles.

The inaugural draft was held in Saskatchewan Place with many suspected first & second round players in attendance.

Russian Goaltender Maksim Yarkin went #1 overall to the Winnipeg Thunder

Canadian defenseman Cam Maiolino, a 26 year old from Vancouver was selected third overall by the Saskatoon Stallions.

Mike Ruest, a young and coming Right Winter from Ottawa was selected fourth overall by the Vancouver Rockies.

The Ottawa Renegades, struggling in standings, ticket sales, & attendance, attempt to fold but the league agreed to prop them up for one more season in the hopes that they'd regain their profits during the season and be able to continue past that.

Due to the 1994 NHL lockout the CHL would see a surge in popularity bringing in more revenue than ever.
