How to add 3rd party (mlb) players?

im assuming what people are talking about is the Lahman51-csv database? is that the one most people are adding? it seems to be a zip file and then when unzipped, they are excel files.

excuse the complete newbie question, but is this the main one people add when they want to use real players... and if so, how do you add it?

Thank you! Looks like a great game; I just want to use real players and not fictional ones. I appreciate all the help I can get.

spt72 - The newest lahman is lahman53. You need to d-load the one is csv format (comme-delimited format). Once you have it d-loaded you just need to tell the game where you have the folder located on your computer so itknows where to grab the players from.

There are also modified versions of the DB which are better designed o use specifically with OOTP.

I have a thread about a new DB that I am designing with Arod23. Hoping to finish it soon and post it for d-load. Th thread is here

Ive also read a lot about minor leagues and college players. I guess these are also fictional? Or did someone actually get ahold of the actual college stats the last 20 years or so and type them in for import? If so, thatd be phenomenal, but I couldnt imagine anyone actually doing this.

Ive pre-ordered the game by the way and have played the free download once, but thats the extent of my OOTP playing. Im a 20-year Strat player so I understand my way around sims; Im just very unsure of what I can do here.

My main thing is that I want to have a draft with myself and the computer... I want to manually do the first 6-10 rounds for all teams and then manually do my own teams as the computer drafts itself... and I want to use players from various years (not fromt he same season). Can OOTP do this the way Strat can? If so, I'll be 110% happy.

To my knowldge there is no college or minor league DB of stats in the format needed for the game.

I will answer these Q's based on OOTP6.5.

Draft with you and CPU: Yes

Manually draft for all teams until Round X then draft for just your own team(s) while CPU-controlled teams make thir picks: YES

Use players from various time periods in the same league: YES, but you have to manually import each player from the DB by typing in their DB id. It can take a while. You may want to check out some pre-made fantasy roster sets that already have this set up. What we really need is an era-normalized DB so that Deadball pitchers (who didn't give up HRs) aren't as great against modern hitters in these types of fantasy scenarios...but maybe you don't want that anyway.

Ah, so you cant import the entire database at once and have all teams from all years? You have to do it player by player?

If you have all teanms from all years already in the game.... I figured (like Strat) that you could just pull the players from the teams into one big draft pool. n Strat, this is a simple drag and drop (or copy/paste) process. Sorry to keep bringing up the Strat computer game, but its all I know. This one looks like it could be better if all goes well... and thats good considering the astronmical price for strat's seasons sets.

Im not AS concerned about eras as that will come later.... I was thinking, basically, of a draft with only 80s players or only 90s players... not necessarily one with guys from 1880-2005.

But tod o that you have to import players from the database individually? You cant import entire seasons of leagues and then just do a quick drop of a player into a draft pool?

Thanks for the help; Ill probably have many more questions

spt72 - You can import entire seasons at once and then hand pick a few extra players from the DB to add to your league. I could start a league in say 1995 with all the real players from that year, and then grab Babe Ruth from the DB and put him into the league too if I wanted.
