M-hm. M-hm. Say, instead of those human catapults, do you have anything of value? Do you have a bullpen cart? What about that big-*** crown on the scoreboard? A skilled accountant?

Heh, very good. You know, he's had that look in his eyes at times when it appears he himself is wondering what happened, and what's going to happen.

I can tell you what happened; considering Tommy John surgery and thoracic outlet syndrome and all that ****, he had every single scary surgery you really don't want to have as a pitcher, except maybe for having half of a splintered bat removed from your groin area.

Then there's the problem that he was a real ****stand and stumbled from one PR disaster to the next when he was actually successful, which already pissed off even part of the Mets fanbase (not me).

So, now you have a pitcher that nobody likes, for whom six innings, three runs appears to be a lofty goal at the best of times, going about his job with that certain deer-in-the-headlights expression, and all that when we're coming from the famous "Harvey's better!" game against the Gnats in '13, and who probably figured to make some $200m at some point, and now has to wonder whether he'll be in community college two years from now.

And talking about "Harvey's better!", Strasburg hasn't been exactly a poster boy for resilience, but at least he's still pitching well... Harvey however is the worst kind of mess, and should the Mets ever be able to pry Jason Vargas off the stretcher, I'd obviously remove Harvey from the rotation.

And the 25-man...

Maybe Harvey can close though; surely a better choice than that grossly overvalued bum Familia...

Speaking of which . . . I came here to comment about Harvey's taking his bullpen demotion perfectly. Unhappy, as he should be as a competitor, but accepting it. First step, perhaps, in getting better again.

He knows he's one weird look removed from a flight to Vegas. Although Binghamton might suit him better, and humble him more.

Pitching brilliance can no longer be a measuring stick for Harvey. For Harvey, if he's not bitten by a dog, he *did* have a great night.

When I watched last night's game from the archive, which was serious flashback to years gone by with no pitching, no hitting, no fielding, no lucking into stupid outs because they couldn't get proper outs, ... and THEN I saw a guy in the pen warming up with OSWALT on the uniform, I had a Matsuzaka moment, which shall be defined as knowing the season is over, just in that instant.

Of course I thought of Roy Oswalt. How could the Mets wind up with his charred remains in APRIL??

Well, it still was a stinker of a game. And those are frequent now.

How many times can one bullpen fail in one game?
I think we found out yesterday

Given that Familia has all the letters for "fail" in his name, there is no need to wonder about anything anymore.

I imagine Mets fans are already missing Harvey in the starting rotation given the bomb Vargas threw yesterday. Have to cut the guy some slack, I suppose, since he is just coming back from a serious hand injury.

Ah, still ahead of the Gnats.

Plus, for the 3.2 IP, 9 ER we now have a much better pitcher!

...

I should probably explain.

See, I fully expect him to throw to about a 3.80 ERA. So just to get there, he now has to throw 17.2 scoreless innings, so that's two automatic wins for the Metsies right there, so that's a 2-1 record from three starts for him, and as far as I know all .667 teams will make the postseason. Yes, we are already at the point of the season where we have to talk the various shortcomings of the staff (like, two good pitchers and a pile of turd) nice just to bear the burden, which requires a certain degree of delusion.

This kind of reasoning is also the way in which I manage the Raccoons, and dare I say, Sir, to great success.

Please don't check out the dynasty thread, for it would expose me as a liar.

Yes a basic stats theory.....in the long run everything migrates toward its historical mean

Yesteday I read he would be out just three days, which in Mets terms means he will not play for three days, always coming back "tomorrow", then they finally put him on the DL on Friday, and maybe we'll see him in June, waving to the camera from the dugout with a tightly bandaged stump.

Being a Mets fan is hard.

True story, I've partied with Matt Harvey. Not recently. Not in Los Angeles. But still.
