Did you see that he also has a 3-year extension tacked on to the end of the 10-year deal? The game can't handle more than a 10-year base contract, but the 10+3 makes it effectively 13 years.

And Brewers prospect roster and injury issues I've spotted:
Jake Gatewood tore his ACL in July, he is expected back in June. Quintin Torres-Costa underwent Tommy John (torn UCL) and will miss all of 2019. Mauricio Dubon shouldn't really have much (if any, really) experience in CF. His only experience there is 5 games in the 2016 AFL. Dubon is also Honduran (born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras). When he makes his MLB debut, he will be the second Honduran in history to appear in the Major Leagues. Jacob Nottingham should have some experience at 1B, he made 20 starts there over the past 2 seasons. Weston Wilson needs more experience at 1B. Really, he should be super utility - last year he started 41 games at 1B, 26 at 3B, 11 at 2B, 23 in LF, 9 in RF and 2 at SS. Tucker Neuhaus should have more experience at other positions. He started 41 games at 2B, 3 games at 3B, 11 games in LF, 17 games at SS, and a game at 1B. Joantgel Segovia has mainly been a LF both recently and in his career, but the database has him with the least experience there. He has started in LF 196 times, CF 95, and RF 25. Brice Turang has played primarily SS since at least his JR year in HS - and the minors - but he has equal experience at SS, 2B, and CF. His SS experience should go up, CF down (or gone) Jevon Ward has started in LF 69 times, RF 13 times, and CF 6 times in his 2 years in the minors, but his experience is highest in CF and lowest in LF. The opposite of what it should be, really. Nick Egnatuk should have more experience at 3B than SS. He has had 59 starts at 3B, 1 at 1B, and none at shortstop in his 2 professional seasons. Korry Howell should have some 3B experience, the Brewers started working him there in 7 of his 26 starts (with 19 at SS) last season. |

Blue Jays should have their mentality switched to 'rebuild' and not win now.
Netherlands Antilles is also rate 1* quality, but makes up 0.11% of players. Is this because it's not a country anymore? |

Which isn't to say you won't see some differences if you look the top prospects up, but that's mostly because sometimes one scout/report will classify a pitch as a slider and the next as a curve. It's hard to perfectly classify developing pitches a lot of the time, especially since they can look different each viewing. So we do the best we can, but sometimes different places have totally pitch types listed for prospects.

The AI has Robel Garcia making the Cubs' roster, which IMO seems a bit ambitious. Maybe ZiPS just really likes him I suppose.
I was also thinking that Jake Arrieta's movement rating was super low, but then I saw that ZiPS really doesn't like him. Like really really doesn't like him... its projected HR/9 for him is nearly double his career mark and almost triple his number from his three stud seasons with the Cubs. Go figure |

Looked at prospect pitchers in a few organizations and here are a few things that perhaps could be updated:
Luis Frias (ARI) throws 95-97 MPH, should not be a soft-tosser in the game. Jackson Goddard (ARI) seems to have very generous pitch potential ratings for someone in the back half of his team's top 30. Jimmie Sherfy (ARI) should have a CB instead of a SL (Brooks Baseball agrees). Ian Anderson (ATL) throws a 12-6 CB, not a slider. Zach Pop (BAL) seems to have very generous potential ratings (5*, scouting off) for someone in the back half of his team's top 30. Durbin Feltman (BOS) is being groomed as closer/late relief so the plus plus changeup he has in the game probably doesn't make too much sense. Feltman is a FB/SL guy. I've only looked at 4 teams so far, but things are looking pretty good. Just maybe 1 or 2 adjustments per team so far. Last edited by waittilnextyear; 03-26-2019 at 12:28 AM. |

Fixed Frias, Anderson and Sherfy. On Pop and Goddard, will take a look at those ratings ,where they fall in their team prospect lists in game and adjust as needed.

Here's the next batch...
Brailyn Marquez (CHC) is the #1 SP prospect in the Cubs organization and his repertoire should be FB/(CB or SL)/CH rather than FB/CUT/CB. Adbert Alzolay (CHC) has a cutter in game, but I haven't seen evidence he throws one. Brendon Little (CHC) has a fringy changeup but has an extremely generous 94/100 POT in game (scouting off) for that pitch. Dillon Maples (CHC) has a repertoire of FB/SL/CB with his FB/SL combo being 70 grade pitches (albeit he has no idea where they're going)...Brooks Baseball logs his slider as a cutter, but that thing moves more like a frisbee slider on TV (source: I am a Cubs fan). Oscar de la Cruz (CHC) has struggled with his curveball so 92/100 POT (scouting off) on that pitch seems a bit generous. Michael Kopech (CWS) throws a plus SL as his main secondary pitch (per Brooks Baseball etc). The CB is more of a show-me pitch. Dane Dunning (CWS)...pretty good consensus that his main pitch is a sinker rather than a 4SM. That and he gave up zero homers in 62 IP at AA last season. Zach Thompson (CWS)...pretty good consensus he throws a cutter (55 grade pitch). Riley Pint (COL) has had the moniker "best curveball in the Rockies' system" bestowed on him by a couple of different publications so his main breaking ball should probably be a plus CB rather than a SL. Ryan Castellani (COL)...pretty good consensus his best breaking pitch is an above average SL rather than a CB. Robert Tyler (COL)...pretty good consensus he throws 98-100 MPH and his best secondary is a changeup, so much so that he's mainly a FB/CH guy that works in a so so SL or CB (unclear). Gregory Soto (DET)...pretty good consensus he throws a SL rather than a CB and it's more of a fringe-average pitch than the plus-plus CB he has in the game. Sandy Baez (DET)...pretty good consensus he throws a fringy SL rather than a CB (Brooks Baseball agrees it's a SL). |

Last batch! Thanks for including any/all of these updates into the roster set.
Dean Deetz (HOU) has been turned into a one-inning guy and has pared his repertoire down to just FB/SL. In game, he's still set up to be more starter-ish than reliever-ish. Richard Lovelady (KC) has a FB/SL/CH repertoire where the slider is the best pitch and the changeup is the fringy pitch. Griffin Canning (LAA) has added some velocity over the past year or so. 93-95 MPH seems closer to reality than his in game 90-92 MPH. Gerardo Carrillo (LAD) has the phrase "heavy sink" associated with his fastball wherever I've looked. The Dodgers love them some sinkerballers lately. Carrillo is also nicknamed "The Assassin" -- Baseball America Prospect Handbook. Zach Willeman (LAD) throws a pair of plus breaking balls, both CB and SL. Josh Sborz (LAD) has had velocity increase to 94-96 MPH now that he's in the bullpen. Not sure he throws a CB now that he's a reliever. Trey Supak (MIL)...I'm seeing 93-95 MPH, his velo has ticked up from the 89-91 MPH in game. Anthony Kay (NYM)...seems to have an elite spin-rate curveball rather than a slider. Scouting reports go on and on about how his curveball is among the top rpm curves in the minors. Daniel Zamora (NYM)...one of the more interesting pitchers in the roster. He throws a plus slider 80% of the time, and his "changeup" is actually a 88-90 MPH fastball. He's basically a 1-pitch pitcher that throws a BP fastball every once in a while. Brooks Baseball agrees with this assessment. Domingo Acevedo (NYY)...more 95-97 MPH these days than 99-101 MPH. Brian Howard (OAK)...scouting reports are consistent in mentioning his 2-seamer, the "sink" on his fastball, and that he gets a lot of groundball outs. Not sure if his FB should become SNK or if his pitcher type should just be changed to groundballer. JoJo Romero (PHI)...seems to throw a SNK in addition to his other pitches. Enyel de los Santos (PHI)...reports are that his CB is well below average. Spencer Howard (PHI)...velocity has increased to something more like 95-97 MPH. Starlyn Castillo (PHI)...velocity is more 94-96 MPH than 90-92 MPH. Zach Warren (PHI)...velocity is more 93-95 MPH than 90-92 MPH. Gage Hinsz (PIT)...consensus that his primary fastball is a SNK. Jake Woodford (STL)...velocity is more 92-94 MPH than 90-92 MPH. Adrian Morejon (SD)...velocity is 94-96 MPH now. Chris Paddack (SD)..."earned the nickname 'The Executioner' at Lake Elsinore for his ruthless precision in eliminating opponents." --Baseball America Prospect Handbook. Trey Wingenter (SD)...clearly FB/SL guy according to Brooks Baseball. 97-99 MPH on the heater. Sean Hjelle (SF)...velocity is more 94-96 MPH than 91-93 MPH. Tyler Beede (SF)...also throws a cutter. Nolan Hoffman (SEA)...is a submariner. Primary pitch is SNK. David McKay (SEA)...velocity is 94-96 MPH. Michael Mercado (TB)...is going by "David Mercado" now. T.J. Zeuch (TOR)...primary pitch is SNK. Seth Romero (WAS)...velocity is more 94-96 MPH than 91-93 MPH. Last edited by waittilnextyear; 03-28-2019 at 02:40 AM. |

One other selfish roster request I have, biased though I am as a Cub fan, is to consider adjusting Javier Baez's personality type a bit. He is given all the worst traits in the game and that seems a bit harsh. The reality is that he's an incredibly hard worker, a very emotional player, a "sparkplug," and helped care for his [now deceased] disabled younger sister while growing up. His dad died when he was 10 years old and he taught himself English by procedurally memorizing words as a middle-school aged kid--after coming over to the U.S. so his family could get medical treatment for his sister.
He's been criticized somewhat for his flashiness and swinging for the fences when a more balance approach would be better. But, he's basically a good dude that has really become a team leader over the past couple of years. It would be nice to see some "green" qualities on his player profile instead of the "orange" ones. https://www.mlb.com/news/every-day-w...aez/c-66112700 |
