Some desperately needed changes
Marcus,
I'm looking forward to the latest OOTP release and realize it's a bit late to submit these thoughts, but I did make it to semi-pro ball so here goes: 1. When down by three runs or more, no player on that team will risk an out by trying to take an extra base. Yet, in OOTP it happens all the time. That logic needs to be changed. 2. In addition, major league pitchers should never be thrown out trying to take an extra base because it never happens. Coaches don't like their pitchers wasting energy running the bases and would prefer they make an out. 3. There are too many successful steals on pitchouts. Unless the game's assumption is, when you're NOT going pitch-by-pitch, the pitchout didn't come on the right pitch, this is a real problem. Since 1990, the chance of successfully stealing a base against a major league pitchout is 13.6 percent. My estimation of the OOTP success rate is about 33 percent. 4. When trading players you can't trade salary. For example, when the Cubs traded Carlos Zambrano to the Marlins they picked up $12 million of his $15 million salary. You can't do that in OOTP and it's a real problem. 5. The AI logic for setting up lineups and pitching staff desperately needs improvement. It loves to put relievers in at starter despite low endurance ratings and some of the lineups of the computer controlled teams are bizarre. 6. Not that this doesn't happen in real life, but most of the computer teams in my 10 year plus league are saddled with $20 million a year contracts with mediocre players. Yes! Barry Zito as a real world example, but at least he had some all-star years. Thanks! Jeff |

Addition to this list:
7. Why does the AI seem to absolutely love hitting my slug footed catcher in the leadoff spot?? Suggestion: either in the lineup or depth chart areas, provide a place where I can designate several players as "leadoff" and "cleanup" so only acceptable leadoff hitters can lead off. |
