No six round build-up fights in those days. Twenty round fights were pretty much the norm in Australia then, which might explain short careers of many fighters. Burn out. May well have made better progress under smarter management.

When you look at these photographs from the beginning of the 20th century, you realize how little we have changed in man's hairstyles. In fact, in the early 1900s. men's hairstyles were more reflective of the current hairstyles of 2020 than the 1920s through the 1940s were with a heavy hand on the product to produce the unanimity of short slicked-back wet look. You can still this these styles used in the population, but more men are using the sofy, much shorter Jaggersque shock of wavy hair.

Frank Moran ALT
Career: 1908-1922 Global ID 011647 division heavyweight stance orthodox height 6' 1"/ 185cm reach 76"/193cm country USA residence Pittsburgh, PA won 35(KO 31) + lost 12 (KO 7) + drawn 2= 50 Total rounds: 288 Ed. Maybe he mellowed as he got older, but the young Frank Moran could be a nasty piece of work. He also lost to some average guys like Jim Savage, Al Kubiak, Tom Kennedy, Tony Ross, etc. Not sure he deserved to fight for the title once, never mind twice. I have him rated a '7' and he's 18-2-0 (15) against average comp. He's lost to Al Kubiak and George McRay (boxer with moderate power rated '6' over all who's lost four of his last five.)
