Yes, say goodbye to The Martian until late 2024 if not 2025. The Yankees cannot buy a break these days.

If you have nothing else important to do right now, read this article about a father and son at yesterday's somewhat historic game. Catch the video of the kid celebrating at the end of the game. If that doesn't make you smile, I don't want to know you.
Some Things Are More Important Than History As a no-hitter stretched into extra innings, a journalist rooted for something extraordinary while his son just wanted the Yankees to win. They both got what they wanted. Gift article; available 30 days; does not count toward your allotment of free articles.

Among league leaders perhaps, but it's happened before. Wayne Gross in 1985 (11 HR, 18 RBI) is the one that comes to mind immediately and I would guess there are others.
Edit: Kevin Maas, 1990 (21 HR, 41 RBI) Rob Deer, 1992 (32 HR, 64 RBI) Chris Hoiles, 1992 (20 HR, 40 RBI) Bonds, 2003 (45 HR, 90 RBI) Last edited by Amazin69; 09-12-2023 at 03:40 PM. |

You didn't say "batting title qualifiers". What does that have to do with anything?
Wayne Gross had 264 PA. Is that not enough of a sample that we should take note of his statistical oddities? (Joe Altobelli, who won Baltimore the World Series in 1983, was fired in 1985, so it appears that somebody in Charm City was unhappy about Altobelli's offense failing to maximize their opportunities.) Similarly, why are you being snobby about the near misses? To quote another thread, there's no beer or bacon at stake. This isn't a recognized competition. The seasons I noted are still IMO noteworthy. No need to draw a line in the batter's box. |

Same reason you were being "snobby" when I pointed out an odd statistical fact (Bonds is the only player to drive himself in more than he drove in teammates in a qualified season) and you decided to try and Um Actually me.

Man, this is a mighty tough battle for 4th place in the AL East! Or last place, depending on how you look at it.

Cole is making a good case for those of us who disdain wins as a criterion for the Cy Young Award.
In other news, wishing Anthony Misiewicz a rapid and complete recovery. I saw him take that 100.6 MPH line drive in his left ear and I was horrified by the immediately copious amount of blood that appeared to be coming from his left ear. That would indicate a serious internal injury involving a skull fracture. Fortunately, the damage seems to have been only peripheral.

In only his 100th game this season, Aaron Judge hit three home runs (and a double) and drove in 6 runs. 35 home runs and 70 RBIs — this despite having missed almost two months with that toe injury and another IL stint back in April. Altogether, he has missed more than 50 games this year.

They are continuing to talk him up, at least locally. He doesn't have much competition and the 200 innings pitched are a plus. Click for a larger image.

Sharing this here vs sending this to the 3-4 Yankees fans I talk to.
