Uninformed person, please read threads and posts carefully. Try delving into what we were talking about and specifically what I said in post #259 about how "Yes, I agree now [with the idea of robo umps calling balls and strikes.] And NOT because it was a Yankee victimized in that video!"

If you knew me at all in these forums, you would know that I purposely put aside my Yankees fanhood in all discussions of baseball and sports in general. I do so to get around the knee jerk reaction that you just exhibited.

Your post smacks of two things:
1) Somebody who read only the latest couple of posts and decided to blurt something smart, and
2) Somebody who is jealous and hurting over the lack of success of his own favorite team.

As I told somebody else recently, have the last word. The forum is open:

couple fun facts from this year as the regular season winds down....

the Minnesota Twins reached the 100 win mark for the first time since 1965

and

the Houston Astros reached the 100 win mark for the 3rd consecutive season, making them only the 6th franchise to win 100+ games for three years in a row; joining the Athletics (1929-31), Cardinals (1942-44), Orioles (1969-71), Braves (1997-99), and Yankees (2002-04).... no one has ever done it 4 straight, so something to shoot for in 2020.

(the Cubs came oh-so-close to 5 consecutive when they won 100+ in 1906-07; and 1909-10, but came up short in 1908 with only 99 wins)

Found this quite interesting. One of those Stats you probably never given a passing thought to.

Quote:
Nothing free from the 'Stros

The Astros have issued zero intentional walks all year. They could become the first MLB team on record -- since the intentional walk stat was first kept in 1955 -- to go an entire season without issuing a single intentional walk. Houston is already the record-holder in the "fewest intentional walks" category, having issued just four all of last year. But in 2019, they're taking it to another level. Every other team in baseball has issued at least 10 intentional walks this season.

Probably won't happen, but I hope the Mariners hire Joe Maddon.

He would have saved it if he didn't give up that blooping, seeing-eye single that turned the bat into a toothpick. Grisham gotta make that simple play.

I agree Grisham has to make that play, but at a minimum the game is going to be tied if the play is made. With the way Hader was pitching, the Nationals were likely to win the game anyway.

Acuna Jr. is not a lesser player though. This is probably a situation where you need a some team leaders to take this guy aside and explain to him in no uncertain terms that that can never happen again. Unfortunately, I don't know who fills that role for the Braves? Freeman is great but I'm not sure he is that guy that other players have a respectful fear of. Donaldson? Always seemed pretty self absorbed to me. McCann may be that guy. If he is though then this should have been handled a long time ago because this isn't the first time but it had better be the last. Then again, maybe these guys do not exist in today's MLB.

I don't think Acuna gets it. Believe me, I'm far from one those "play the right way" dog whistlers. I find them highly annoying and mock them whenever the opportunity arises. But Acuna just....doesn't....get......IT. After doing what he did, what did he do on his HR in the 9th? HE POSED AGAIN! The same game where he goofed up before, he strikes a pose again! He doesn't get it.

Braves post game said nothing they said publicly, and they criticized afterward, was anything different from what they have said to him before. He has got to grow up. There is a time for everything. And plays when the ball is live is not the time for it.

If there's one thing I cannot stand in sports, it's professional athletes making millions of dollars who don't hustle.

I wholeheartedly agree with the Acuna assessment. I love the new youth of MLB right now and I am a big Acuna fan. But when I saw that replay, I winced. If you look closely at the end of that footage, when Acuna rounds first and holds up, you can see a Braves coach leaning over the dugout rail behind him and he gets this disgusted look on his face.
I love the "kid playing in the backyard" fun he is having, BUT he's got to realize that the MLB backyard is 100 MPH!

Can't believe anyone would hand a ball to Melancin to pitch it in a playoff game.

I agree. I don't mind bat flips and celebration, and I am getting tired of pitchers hitting players because their feelings are hurt, but "let the kids play" shouldn't encompass lack of hustle.
