I am revamping that data files again, so if anyone is making a ton of additions/changes, then you may want to know...

There are now 8 separate data files:

File | Description | Examples
-----------------------------------------------
Prefix1 | Title | Fort, Cape
Prefix2 | Descriptive | Little, Yellow
Pronoun1 | Last Names | Johnson, Williams
Pronoun2 | First Names | David, Thomas
Noun1 | Common | wood, chair, ball
Noun2 | Complex | volcano, destruction
Verb1 | Future ? | walk, run
Verb2 | Present | walking, running
Suffix1 | Descriptive | burg, ton
Suffix2 | Title | Beach, Springs

I currently have these being able to be combined to create 40 different types of city names.

I just wanted to let anyone know before they did too much.

(And if anyone wanted to work on then lists for the verbs, feel free to send to me.. :-)

Hey there, just stopping by to see how this project is coming along. Been busy with beta stuff and some personal business, so I haven't had the chance to check in.

I'm curious to see how the CNG has evolved since the last update. Happy to give some more feedback once the new version is released!

Just an update: Still working on this.. but got side tracked with other things lately, too. I did away with the verbs for now, but leaving the option in, also.
I have gone thru the extensive lists and removed most of the words that caused some of the odd results. Next for me is to have it create/modify the cities.txt file.

So.. have to have it generate or allow entry for:

Country &/or State/Province
Population for each city based on a population modifier set by the user.
(basically, this will set the maximum and minimum population for each city.
and then on to the other settings that are in each file (cities.txt & nations.txt)

Just thought I'd check in for an update, since it's been a few weeks.

Anything new to report?

First and foremost: This project is not dead...
Every time I start working on it, though, I find things that I don't like and make a major change that requires the programming aspect to be started from scratch, again... and again..

I try planning everything out ahead, but I always overlook something or think of something new.

That said, I am on my 4th different version of the program now (and hopefully final). The major part of this version is actually not a lot of new coding but mostly re-organizing the data files that I'm using.

...and I am also working on other projects at the same time. Whichever one I am able to make the most headway in will usually get the most attention for a short period of time... It's been a pretty hectic time for me the last few weeks but looks to be calming down and I may be able to get more work done on these..

Thanks for the continued interest...

Hey, just checking in as it's been a while. Anything new to report?

If you have a releasable copy of your latest build, maybe I could take a look and give some feedback. Could get the ol' creative juices flowing again, maybe.

Checking in after seeing East Dodsonswell Desert make the playoffs for its 13 time in 25 seasons (all simmed waiting for the first expansion team).

Having a great time with my full fictionalized league.

Great to hear! I'm still fighting to find time to work on this project. Spare time of more than 15 minutes at a time seems to be hard to find. Just got back from our family vacation, so maybe I will be able to work on this over the next few weeks.

What I'm hoping to accomplish is have this program generate all the files necessary for an OOTP Universe. I want it to generate Country names and nationalities and all the necessary settings for each location based on the region type. Right now I am having it generate the country names based on North America so far. Im thinking about it generating the latitude and longitude also, but might not worry about that too much this time around.

We'll have to wait until I get the time to put into this and then see where it goes from there...

Thanks!

This sounds great, is there a copy of the lastest version available somewhere?

I've been using the latest version in this thread and it works great. Nice job. It's especially good at creating a lot of cities which you can use to fill out your fictional worlds even though you may not use them as actual cities with baseball teams.

One of the things I'm noticing is that most of the names sound like they come from a "Western" movie and it's hard to find ones that sound modern. Just something to keep in mind.

- I noticed this also... That's part of the reason I scrapped what I had and started fresh. I just haven't had the ambition to sit down and write the code completely...
