Rating Judges

Has anyone here ever rated any of the judges for bias'?

If so, which judges and what were their bias'?

Ciao,
John

Harold Valan is biased towards hometown fighters in my unierse based on this

Chuck Wepner vs. Ernie Terrell - Boxrec Boxing Encyclopaedia

and the fact that he was a judge who ruled in favor of Johnny Boudreaux against Scott Ledoux. He did not judge many fights according to boxrec [althouh it is surely incomplete], but he was a part of two famous bad decisions;

With such limited information on judges--sometimes you don't even get their names--I created a stock of fictional judges that have biases for hometown, champion, boxing style, etc. I created a dice driven random chart to factor them in.

One of the problems with hometown judges is that they're hometown persons!!! What I mean is that they are typically locals you've never heard of before and most likely will never hear of again.

Call me lazy, but to do all that research on actual judges is not worth my effort when I can get the same effect with fictional/created judges.

Also, as you know, when you do use real life judges in TBCB, there's often different scoring totals in a decision, despite the fact that they are listed as bias free.

The Beta-testers looked at judge bias and activity before the release of 2.5. A spread-sheet examining judge traits was created by Will (Thunder) and made availble to the beta test team for imput. I know that in the case of "active" judges inclusion of a judge was based upon their documentable activity and some suggested inclusions were ommited because they didn't have enough recent activity to be considered active.

Anyone wishing to take the time to go into things further is more than welcome to start a new mods thread to add more judges is welcome to do so. New contributions to the "Mods" trheads are always welcome.

Make that three, as he was the referee, and sole judge in the highly questionable Jimmy Ellis vs Floyd Patterson fight in which if I recall correctly Ellis was knocked down, and also had his nose broken by Floyd, and somehow emerged victorious.

Greg

Nevertheless, Harold Varlan is another member of the Boxing Hall of Fame of the great Jersey Free State.

HAROLD VALAN

According to something else I read, when Patterson became chairman of the NY State Athletic Commission, Varlan was afraid he would never work again. But Patterson was not one to hold a grudge, and he went on using Varlan on a regular basis.

Harold was a good ref for the most part, and also worked the second Foreman - Frazier fight at The Nassau County Coliseum. I have bookmarked the NJ Boxing Hall of Fame as well as many others in doing my research for both adding trainers & cut men to the game, and also gaining more info to make the game more realistic from the standpoint of having the right trainers & cut men with the proper fighters for those who are interested.

Working on my Hall of Fame Universe. Created some referee and judge files.
I'll post them here rather than create a new thread.
