Creating 1920's era?
So I came across this webpage tonight: http://www.baseball-reference.com/re....cgi?year=1921
Basically showing teams that were around back in 1921. What I wondering is how to simulate that? I'd like to do it with completely fictional players, so I don't want to use real historic rosters, rookies, etc. How would I go about this? With no am. draft back then, scouts found players from various places like all these small independent leagues. So I'd remove the draft, and sign players found on the smaller teams? I guess, has anyone setup something similar to this, with all the small leagues? |

Start a fictional league in 1921. It's the league totals modifier checkbox that drives the stat output.
You can disable the amateur draft and the new players will enter the league as free agents each year. Create a separate, unaffiliated minor league and some of those players will sign with the minor league clubs. You can also enable a setting that allows the minor league clubs to sell players to other leagues. I've been experimenting with setups like this starting in 1901. It works quite well. A handful of the minor league's best players get purchased each year by the major league clubs.

Ok, thanks for the info. The one thing I worry about is that it seems too easy to find and buy players from the lower leagues. Although again I guess richer teams back then did the same and plucked better players.
What I was hoping to learn, is how to create situations like scouts finding (Walter Johnson was it?) a star in the Idaho Leagues. If it's possible. I suppose turning off star/potential and/or scouting to a less accurate setting would be useful also? |
