Historic Fantasy League and players to select
I had this idea for OOTP17 just before OOTP18 was released but didn't take it any further seeing as 18 was going to give the Negro league players I wanted to add. So I am going to give it a try with 18 and hopefully it will become my main play/watch league.
I am trying to set up a historic fantasy league whereby I run a major league loosely based on the history of the MLB starting in 1871 but with different teams and expansion when i want it not when it actually expanded. I know I could do it with the historic game but I don't always like the teams it uses and want to use my own so that I can control expansion and relocation if needed along with team names. I want the players for the league to be any major league player that ever played the game and any significant minor league/negro league players to see who will develope into a great ball player using the developement engine and not recalc. I know I will need to import these players on a season by season basis when they first played either major league ball or minor league ball (if that came first). The issue I have is that being from the U.K. I do not know much about the history of minor league ball and am not sure how to go about selecting the minor league players to import. Can anyone with a more significant knowledge of the historic minor league scene suggest which minor leagues are best to take the minor league ball players from. I have selected the below leagues so far as being current or highly rated defunct minor leagues or negro leagues based on Wikepedia (which is probably not the best source). I will probably use baseball-reference.com to decide if a minor league only player is worthy of joining the league based on years and games played in the minors. any major league player even for only 1 game will be an automatic join for the league. I know this might give me quite a few more players than I need but would like to see how it developes. I will be using the Master and MilBMaster files in the stats folder to determine the players to check. Minor Leagues currently selected. international league american association (defunct) pacific coast league and all other current minor baseball leagues. Negro leagues Negro national league Eastern Colored league American Negro League east-west league negro southern league 2nd negro natioanl league negro american league |

That is a good list. You could add the occasional player from the Texas League. But the Pacific Coast League and various Negro Leagues pretty much cover it.
