Well, returning to the now seemingly mundane business of rooting for the Yankees, these guys will have extra time to heal their injuries. That is, if they don't stub their toes walking to their refrigerators, or something.

Gosh, do I miss my Yankees. What are they all doing now? Sitting at home, playing OOTPB?

I encountered an interesting factoid as I was flipping through channels, trying to find something that would resemble live sports action that I had not seen before (funny, I cannot look at old Yankees games; it's a bit of déjà vu for old Déjà Bru and I am of an age where the passage of time is bothering me).
YES is rebroadcasting "Derek Jeter's Final Home Game" and in the few seconds that I was tuned in, I learned that only one man on the field or off was in baseball uniform for both Jeter's first home game, and his last: Buck Showalter. Showalter was 39 years old and managing the Yankees when Jeter came up from the minors and he was 62 years old and managing the Orioles (the away team at that game) when Jeter retired: A funny/sad side note. YES will do alright with their rebroadcasts and filler material, given it's about the Yankees. Half of MSG's air time seems to be taken up by recent Knicks games. Who in the heck is going to tune in to see those (mostly) debacles replayed? As it is, SNY has a better chance of attracting my attention with their replay of Mets games from 2019. At least those are new to me!

Wow, having just dragged the Mets thread out of mothballs, it occurred to me that it's been a long time since I've seen this one. So here it is, even though I don't have anything new about the Yankees to talk about. Yet. Maybe I'll look around a bit.

Topsy-turvy days: "Spring" training, in summer, at Yankee Stadium.

Heh, talk about your silver linings. This is the "silverest" that I have seen sportswise:
So the gist is, he was going to lose time anyway, but since there has been no baseball, he didn't actually lose any time! He just got three months older (so far).

They have to dig these days for stories, usually unsuccessfully, but I must admit that I found this ESPN article interesting and enjoyable:
25 years ago [today, July 4], Mariano Rivera made the one great start -- yes, start -- of his Hall of Fame career "...the closest we came to missing out on Mariano Rivera's Hall of Fame career might have been the day he had the best outing [as a starting pitcher] of his life." He threw eight shutout innings, striking out 11 batters and allowing only two hits. As I read it, the gist of the article is that this one good starting performance in 1995 may have derailed Rivera's career by erroneously establishing him as a starter rather than a reliever. He didn't have the quality pitch assortment needed as a starter and, if sidetracked in that role, he would have been just another mediocre player. Instead, circumstances (and Joe Torre, starting in 1996) dictated that he move to the bullpen where his one good pitch, the cutter, made him the greatest closer of all time. He never started another game in the ensuing 18 years of his career. One sobering thought: "It was 25 years ago today, when he was 25 years old." That means Rivera is already 50 years old! That's hard to believe.

25 games into this "season" and the Yankees already have 10 players on the IL. Many of the injuries are of the "ran too hard" and "stretched too much" type. They really need to look into their strength and conditioning protocols.

True, I don't know anything about "strength and conditioning protocols" but how would you explain this phenomenon?

At least the Mets had pity on you and got ... uh... "busy"... and so you have the weekend off. Ain't that great? Time to heal up!

Yeah, that was rough in two ways. The two(?) Mets who got sick and the entire series being postponed. I can't get my hands on a reliable schedule; was it two games or three? The rate that they are postponing games, there is little likelihood of playing all 60, I think.

Three, Friday through Sunday. But the Friday game and the Mets' finale in Miami were postponed first, and then the other two games a day later or something.
