How is Draft Order Set?
Doesn't seem right to me.

I don't have the game, but i'm pretty sure the NHL uses a lottery to determine draft order.

Keep in mind that the draft order shows who owns the picks as of draft day, rather than the original owner of the pick. Trades between clubs could have contributed to the order being as strange as it is.
However, given how seldom first-round picks seem to get traded by the AI, the fact that you have several bad teams (Detroit, St. Louis, Nashville, Carolina) picking at the end of the first round, rather than the beginning, is a bit weird. Also, one would expect Ottawa to be picking 30th-- so the question becomes, did Ottawa trade their first-rounder to Carolina? The fact that the second round doesn't show those teams with picks in the early part of the round also seems strange. Can you post the entire order for the second round? Unless you've had a lot of pick trading, it does appear as though the order is a little strange. |

sure, I just happened to have not deleted my older messages yet.
It was weird. On March 1, I (Sharks) traded for Carolina's 1st round pick and was shocked to be picking last, so actually the draft order in that message shows original owner. |

We have had occasional issues in an online league (that doesn't have trades) with the draft order being incorrect. In one year, Stanley Cup runner-up drafted 13th, and a team that lost in the first round drafted 30th.

Went back all the way to 2016 and St Louis always drafts 29th and Carolina always drafts 30th and in 2023 there was no lottery winner listed.

Yeah, I would file this one as a bug. Sucks to be both Carolina and St. Louis-- the Canes should have been in the hunt for a lottery pick!

thanks for reporting this. I have not tried recreating it myself yet but will - i've been playing fictional recently. In the meantime I've reported the bug.

It appears it just repeats whatever the first season's draft order was - sucks for me because now I'm picking 29th for the foreseeable future.
