Walkers news: Sept. 22 -- St. Louis 11, Quad City 8

Record: 87-64, 1st, 4 GA Des Moines
Down 8-3, St. Louis scored twice in the top of the seventh inning and then exploded for six more in the eighth as it rallied for an 11-8 win over Quad City at Fenway Park (1979).
The game had been tied at 3-3 before the Thunder put up a three-spot in the fourth -- a two-run homer from Thomas Dillard and RBI single from Nick Gonzalez -- and two more in the fifth -- two-run single from Ronald Acuna Jr. -- to go up by five.
The River Walkers gained some life in the seventh when Larry Ernesto connected for a two-run double off QC reliever Sean Newcomb.
They then blew up in eighth, scoring the six runs on six hits.
Fernando Tatis Jr., Jared Thomas and Ernesto all had hits off Thad Ward that drove in two.
Tatis Jr.'s was a double. Thomas hit a triple and Ernesto hit a homer to drive in the inning's final two runs.
Coming off a shutout in his previous start, this outing was a rough one for Walkers starter Steven Brault who allowed six runs on 11 hits over just four innings.
Luis Palomo gave up two runs in the fifth, but followed with a scoreless sixth.
Ricky Cisneros, Angel Tiburcio and Edwin Diaz all worked a scoreless inning apiece.
Cisneros (3-1) came out of it with a win. Diaz got his 28th save.

Walkers news: Sept. 23 -- St. Louis 6, Quad City 2

Record: 88-64, 1st, 4 GA Des Moines
St. Louis jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and starting pitcher Jimmy Lambert worked into the seventh as the River Walkers defeated Quad City 6-2 at Fenway Park (1970).
The second batter of the game, Carlos Vidal, staked the Walkers to a 1-0 lead with a solo homer off Thunder starting pitcher Evan Steele.
But St. Louis wasn't done.
Rhys Hoskins, Andrew Benintendi and Fernado Tatis Jr. all followed with singles, Hoskins scoring on Tatis Jr.'s base knock to make it 2-0.
Ronald Acuna Jr.'s RBI double off Lambert in the third did make it 2-1.
But the Walkers got that run back in the top of the third, when Jared Thomas led off with a double and scored on a two-out double off Steele from Vidal Brujan.
St. Louis broke it open with a three-run fifth.
Jean Carmona drove in the first run with a double off Steele.
Jared Thomas chased home the second on a ground out.
Even Lambert got in on the action, with an RBI single which scored Carmona.
Lambert (7-9) lasted 6.2 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits.
John Curtiss got the final out of the seventh.
The eighth and ninth belonged to Nick Lodolo, who kept it 6-2.

Walkers news: Sept. 24 -- St. Louis 5, Quad City 4

Record: 89-64, 1st, 4.5 GA Des Moines, Magic number -- 4
St. Louis built a 5-0 lead and then held off a late rally by Quad City for a 6-4 win at Fenway Park (1970).
The win gave the River Walkers a three-game sweep of the Thunder.
St. Louis took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second after Fernando Tatis Jr. drew a lead-off walk from QC starter Jose Castenada.

A double by Jared Thomas move Tatis Jr. to third, and he would score on a Jean Carmona ground out.
That lead grew by a run in the third inning.
Tatis Jr. again played a role, this time driving in Vidal Brujan, who had led off the inning with a double, with a single of Castenada.
Brujan pushed the advantage to 5-0 in the sixth hitting a three-run homer off reliever Danny Garza.
St. Louis ace Alex Faedo cruised through the first seven innings without allowing a run, but he ran into trouble in the eighth.
Duke Kinamon reached on a one-out single, and Ronald Acuna Jr. also got on base when Tatis Jr. dropped a pop up at third base.
Nick Gonzalez made the Walkers pay with a three-run homer.
That spelled the end for Faedo.
But reliever Jake Brentz didn't bring his best stuff to the mound, walking Chase Davis and allowing a single to Adam Haseley.
Angel Tiburcio got the call and struck out Kameron Misner for the second out.
But pinch-hitter Ka'ai Tom followed with a single, scoring Davis to make it 5-4.
Tiburcio, however, got out of the jam by getting Eddy Osnay Diaz to fly out.
Tatis Jr. made a bit of amends for his error in the top of the ninth by hitting a homer off Garrett Williams.
Closer Edwin Diaz struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth for his 29th save.
Faedo (17-7) worked 7.1 innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He struck out eight and walked two.

St. Louis jumped out to an 8-0 lead and then held on as Springfield rallied against its bullpen, coming out of it with an 8-6 win at Olympic Stadium (Montreal).
The River Walkers waited until the top of the fifth to begin building their advantage putting four runs on the board.

It is the second consecutive NL South title for the River Walkers and their fourth in the last nine season.
Ernesto had led off the 10th by drawing a lead-off walk from Harvesters closer Omar Benitez.
A bunt from Vidal Brujan moved him to second.

Lambert worked 6.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits. He struck out six and walked none.

Walkers news: Sept. 30 -- Des Moines 3, St. Louis 2, 10 innings

Record: 92-67, 1st, NL South clinched; 1 GA Madison for best NL record
Garrett Frechette singled with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning off St. Louis reliever Luis Palomo and later scored on an Andrew Foley single, as Des Moines won 3-2 at Labatt Stadium (Montreal).
With the win, the Harvesters took the final two games of the three-games series but that could not offset the fact the River Walkers clinched the National League South Division with their win in the opener.
Palomo had just entered the game when Frechette greeted him with a single.
A walk to John Lehto moved Frechette to second.
After getting Elih Marrero to fly out, Foley dropped a fly ball in front of left fielder Carlos Vidal sending Frechette across the plate.
A pair of solo homers from Cody Bellinger off St. Louis starter Tanner Bibee helped stake Des Moines to a 2-0 lead.
The Walkers, however, tied it with runs in the sixth (RBI single from Jared Thomas off Harvesters starter Nick Pivetta) and ninth (back-to-backj doubles from Andrew Benintendi and Vidal Brujan) to help send it to extra innings.
Pivetta worked six innings, allowing one run on five hits.

Reyes Moronta worked the seventh inning.
The eighth belonged to Albert Hernandez (0.1 IP) and Ronny Carvajal (0.2).
Omar Benitez got the first out of the ninth.
Jon Olsen finished that inning as the Walkers tied it, and then worked a scoreless 10th.
Olsen (2-0) came out of it with the win, despite the blown save.
