Jeff mentioned somewhere that something went wrong, when they were adjusting the value of tough guys to the AI teams. So the AI managers simply see no need for them. You may dress a tough guy, but he probably has no one to fight on the other teams.
I'm sad that this part of the game of hockey (!) is still so underrepresented in the engine. Except for one-on-one fights, which happen for no apparent reason, there are no fisticuffs at all. That makes especially playing in the NHL of the 70s and 80s pretty bland. There are supposed to be rivalries and brawls. |

What do you want from FHM -- hockey simulator or boxing simulator?

There was less than a fight every two games on average in the NHL last season, so a 10 game stretch without fights wouldn't be that unusual, particularly depending on what teams were playing.

I don't think the problem is getting enforcers to fight, per se. It appears that the issue is getting enforcers to PLAY at all.
There are plenty of fights, just not by the right players in most cases. Jeff says they're working on getting the AI to covet pugilists a bit better. Hopefully they accomplish this for the next patch. As the OP said, fighting certainly is a part of the game, a BIG part of the game in many historical eras. We'd want those numbers to be portrayed accurately. Last edited by Smetana; 09-10-2013 at 08:31 AM. |

They're aware of it and hopefully theyre actions speak louder than words as Ive been bringing this up since Beta was released to us and it still isnt functioning properly.
I have all faith Mr. JeffR and company will fix this broken aspect of the game. |

Here is my "test"
I played Historymode right now and things are pretty good. I am playing season 1990/91 and i put all the toughguys aggressive up to 25-40 and fighting 25-40. It was hard job! :-) The big mistake here is that enforcers are so underrated. Too low ratings. Its half of season and there is playing guys like Ray, May, Vukota, McSorley, Odjick, Vial, Probert, Kocur, Brown, Chase, McRae, Churla, Manson, Hughes, Petit, Kennedy, Carkner, Russell, Peluso, Stern, Laus, Domi, Odelein, Kyte, Hunter, McKenzie, Sandlak, Berube, Tamer, Poeschek, Kimble, Sandlak, Miller, Kordic, Huscroft etc etc. I then put injury to 1.30 so there is few injuries and teams has to call up guys and they have called up these fighters. Then i put penalties per game to 28.50. And stats are now like this. About 41-43 games played. top-5 pims: 1. Bob Probert 139min 2. Dave Manson 129min 3. Pat Verbeek 117min 4. Marty McSorley 116min 5. Brent Hughes 115min (29g) Fights top-5 1. Dave Manson 10 fm 2. Lyle Odelein 10 fm 3. Brent Hughes 8 fm 4. Bob Probert 8 fm 5. Matry McSorley 8 fm This is ok but not 100% correct. There should be more fights and less minors. But this is far better than nothing. Is great to play these historical games. I like a lot! |

In 1990-91 16 players cracked 250 PIMs, you'll get one or two. Over 20 players amassed 20+ fighting majors, you may'll get maybe one or two. b) You mess up the whole statistics by setting your penalties to 28,50 per game. I just tested it in 1990-91. It leads to ridiculous numbers on the powerplay. Every team scored more than 1.5 powerplay goals per game. Pittsburgh finished with 200 powerplay goals!! Stephane Richer (of all people) scored 82 goals that year, 47 on the powerplay. 13 players broke Tim Kerr's record of 34 powerplay goals in one season. So that obviously can't be the solution... |

I know that this is not correct. That i said earlier. There should be more fights and less minors. I have said it before but there should be fights per game that we can change. Not only penalties per game. I lowed goals per game ratings and Gretzky is now leading goals (62g 64 games).
But you are right. This is not the solution but i was just testing etc. |

So I also tested this setting at 28.5. And yeah the results are weird. Most of my team either spent all of their minutes on the PP or PK. All minor penalties though. Through 5 games no fights. I changed the penalty setting to 18 now. I changed the whole roster for all NHL teams and made all of the enforsers almost be at 30-40 on both aggressiveness and fighting and still no fights WTF. Very frustrating. Any other suggestions?

but we all saw that back in january what amazes me more is that the community as a whole isn't posting to threads like this. why would the developers feel the need to create a realistic game if no one posts to say- how is this not in a game about pro hockey? so 487 views and 3 posters says quite a lot actually |

The more people voice theyre opinion the more fire will lodge between theyre butts to get this part of the game implemented the right way. In all honesty for a game like this to develop an actual hockey simulator without even the slightest attention to the physical side of the sport is ... #&*ing scary....
Id like to personally thank everyone for keeping these posts alive and heres too this game getting the attention and this matter. *cheers all* |

Thanks for all the suggestions and tests. I just purchased the game the other day and was going back to play in the 70's and noticed in the first 10 games that there were really no fights with my Flyers. I am sure most of you know the Flyers won back to back Stanley Cups by intimidation and fighting. Some skill in there too. They earned the nickname the Broad Street Bullies but in this game so far, they are far from Bullies.
Anyway, I will keep playing around with it and see if I can get anything remotely close to 70's hockey. I look forward to seeing and update in the game that more accurately represents hockey as it was played.
