First of all, thanks for taking a look at this log!

I chose Sandusky because of the Beagles uniform set that's available as part of the Nickname Project. As soon as I saw that set I went, "Hm, wouldn't it be cool if..." and went from there!

They've also been the name of a minor league affiliate I usually create when I do expansion in MLB. Most of the team names in this league are variations of teams I've created as part of expansion franchises in OOTP in the past year or so.

MATOS KING OF THE HILL, NO-HITS SHARKS

Fernando Matos, the owner of the first no-hitter in ABO history

SAN ANTONIO, TX (NAP) - The Seattle Sounders BC and their fans had a lot to celebrate today as 35-year-old hurler Fernando Matos no-hit the San Antonio Sharks 8-0 at Main Street Field in front of 9,793 in attendance. It is the first no-hitter in the history of the American Baseball Organization.

"He mixed his pitches well, hit his spots...and got some help from above," said his pitching coach, Norm Bannon. "Fernando really took it to another level today."

On his record-setting day, the Medellin, Colombia, native Matos had 8 strikeouts and 2 walks.

His manager, Fernando Krafstein, added, "I don't remember a better pitched game. And how about our defense, too. We played some good 'D' today."

Looking at his season stats, Matos has won 6 and lost 3, collecting 73 strikeouts and 32 walks in 85 innings with a 4.02 ERA.

ABO MILESTONE ALERT
August 9, 2016

SKYLINERS COMBINE TO NO-HIT BREWERS

Jonathan Smith and Evan Parham, the pitchers who combined to throw the 2nd ABO No-Hitter this year.

CHICAGO, IL (NAP) - One out.

That's all that stood between Jonathan Smith and a no-hitter for the Chicagoland Skyliners. However, when 2 walks and 2 groundouts led to the Kalamazoo Brewers' first run of the game, the Skyliners manager decided, against the crowd's wishes, to pull Smith with 2 outs in the 9th. The good news? Evan Parham induced a flyout to center on the first pitch to seal the first combined no-hitter in the ABO, and the second one in the league this year, in a 5-1 victory at Daly Park.

Smith's final line was 8.2 IP, 0 H, 1 ER, 11 K, and 3 BB.

This no-no won't officially be a no-hitter in the normal, record book-type sense, but we at the NAP congratulate these 2 Skyliners pitchers on accomplishing a feat that could be considered rarer than the conventional no-no!

Only a few non-divisional matchups this week, but we're getting down to the last week of the season! The final day of the ABO Season will have all teams playing their final game at the same time (save for Arlington, Cape Cod, and Nashville, who have makeup games the day after, with Cape Cod and Nashville both playing Arlington). Stay tuned for that!
