fictional feeders players past age limits, keep playing

Fictional league, full feeders. Players that don't advance to fed leagues remain playing full seasons in feeder high school or college league. Setting new all time records etc. By remain playing I mean until old age.

I made the league by creating and running a league for 30 seasons, then deleting all history and saving the result as a template. Then I create a new game using the template. Maybe that has something to do with it.

I don't know how to post an image here.

So it seems the reason for the issue was I didn't have "enable amateur draft" check marked.

But that still seems like a bug. If there is no amateur draft then shouldn't "graduates" of the feeder system simply retire?

And there is still a problem:

For example, I have a player drafted from high school at age 27, failed to sign, so has returned to college league. The age limit for college rosters is 23.

It's a balance - we have checks to allow players in past the age limits of the league, because we don't want a high-schooler being released by a team halfway through the season because he happened to be slightly over-age.

Had the league simply been a standalone college league and not actually fed into another league, we have steps in place to release over-age players. But leagues explicitly set up as feeders are explicitly set up to have lots of roster management stuff happen at the draft, so if you didn't have the draft, then that stuff gets skipped.

re "gets skipped" -- so you need to have drafts enabled or you'll end up with 55 year old high-schoolers?

Ok, so I cleared rosters and refilled with fictional players. Ran a bunch of seasons and all roster players are within age ranges. Glad to have figured it out!

You can have a standalone HS or College league that doesn't feed into any league and that's more than fine. But yeah, how you had it set up was basically a contradiction in setup - the feeder thought it was feeding into a league, but the league didn't want a draft. So everything got kind of jumbled.
