One thing I love about this years version is how player size is determined by when you play. Just started a fictional league starting in 1910 and its a nice touch seeing the majority of players being 5'8 175

does this mean we can use default values for player development settings? or do we still need to use those extreme settings to get things to resemble real life progression?

Default values will match recent MLB trends pretty well. I believe the fact that OOTP leagues tend to have slightly fewer older players than real life is not because those settings are off, but because OOTP GM's don't hire players based on name recognition and get rid of more old players than do real life GMs.

Sounds good to me, I reset my settings back to the middle, 1.000s and 100 for randomness, and will see how that goes. I just remember oh so many hours spent looking over data and following the threads on where that sweet spot was for dev modifiers in the past two versions.

Sweet, this version really does have some nice improvements to it.

Correlations between stats in MLB hold true for the most part in OOTP now. Players who hit more doubles are now more likely to be better overall hitters. Players with more power are now more likely to strike out more and walk more and even get beaned a little more often than players without power. Strikeout pitchers are now more likely to walk more batters than finesse pitchers. It is tougher to find a player that can run like the wind and knock the cover off the ball. All of these correlations and many, many more have been attuned in OOTP to match real life.
Was correlations between stats told before? I looked OOTP15 newsletter, but I can't find it. It's a really amazing feature.

This is a feature/improvement Markus has continually worked on. Each year there has been improvements but this one is definitely a large leap forward. It pretty much just goes under improvements to the engine, albeit a big one.

From the Oxford English Dictionary...
A ludicrous or grotesque version of someone or something:

So this is what I've been playing all these years.
I will now upgrade.
