Pedroia wins MVP
With a lead over second place of 50 points that wasn't quite as close as I thought it would be, and surprised (though pleased) to see Youk finish 3rd.
Can't be too many people who have won ROY and MVP in consecutive seasons... |

Couldn't expect the writers to get ALL of the awards right.

Watch this guy play everyday and you'll see why he was a solid choice.

And/or short or skinny.
I haven't seen the VORP #s from this year yet, but just by looking at the PA/OBP/SLG/RC numbers the only way I can understand it not being close is the Eastern bias or that stupid, "you have to play for a contender" crap. Put Sizemore or Hamilton on the Red Sox and they win it. Or do you really get extra points for a being a scrappy little guy? Both had higher RC and RC/27 and both are CFs. I'm not sure how Hamilton rates as a CF, but I'm pretty sure Grady's up there and I'd rather have a great CF than a slightly lesser 2B. Grady's highest vote was a 6th place. What the?? What jumps at me most looking at those #s is how good of a year 3 Orioles had. Yeah, Roberts had a great year a few years ago and Aubrey Huff was once pretty good, but I thought they were washed up. And this Markakis kid, wow! It's too bad the Orioles pretty much otherwise suck because they might be worth watching some (that pitcher Guthrie is pretty good). |

If Fred Lynn didn't scorch the ball in the year he was first called up to the bigs, I think he probably would have been the biggest surprise ever. |

Pedro: #3 in the AL in VORP (about 2.5 behind the leader -ARod - and less than 1 behind Sizemore); #1 in the AL in WARP1 (barely above Mauer). Plus, he does have a good story line, was on a good team, and is a fun player to see play.
Pedro: Reasonable pick in a field of candidates that were pretty evenly matched statistically. I'd have voted for Mauer, basically b/c he deserved it previously, but Pedro is a reasonable pick for sabr reasons and entertainment reasons.

I don't have a problem with this win.
The award was wide open and Pedroia was clearly the most productive 2B in the American League. |

You're not saying the bolded are good criteria for picking MVP are you? I don't think you are, I'm just asking. I like to tell myself we take these awards too seriously (we can come up with our own), but I'd hate to see that be someone's criteria for the MVP. That they have to be on a good team is bad enough, but they have to be a good story now too? If so, might as well just call it the ESPN award for real. As for Mauer, yeah, I see his value when it comes to having a great catcher when most catchers stink, but I have a difficult time giving it to someone whose RC is low compared to so many others (20th). I'm willing to let VORP influence my rating of catchers though. |

I watched Pedroia every game, and he's really a fantastic player. However, I don't even think he was MVP on his own team. Youkilis played fantastic defense at 1B, then did a great job at 3B when Lowell was hurt, and put up fantastic numbers -- numbers I think were better overall than Pedroia's.
Interesting trivia: With everyone yapping about how amazing Manny Ramirez played for the Dodgers late in the year, guess who had more extra base hits than Ramirez in August? Pedroia. |

Youk was the MVP of the soxs... who else could fill 3B when Lowell went down?
One stat won Poopdroia the MVP- 5'7" (or 5'9" if you believe the media guide). If he is over 6' tall he doesn't win the award. |

Is it really considered trivia if ESPN spouts it off every 2 hours?

That's called trivial.
