07/11/1975 - Game 1 - Great Stroke: Unser Gets 5 Hits

It was a hits blitz for Del Unser at Riverfront Stadium today.

The New York Mets center fielder tore into the Cincinnati Reds for 5 hits in 5 at-bats, but it wasn't enough to win the game. The Reds swept past the Mets 5-4 to ruin Unser's day.

"We weren't locating our pitches well," New York manager explained after the game. "Once you get behind in the count, you have to make really good pitches, rather than pretty good pitches, and we weren't able to do that today. Getting 5 hits from Del was nice but it wasn't enough."

Del Unser singled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 7th and doubled in the 9th.

During the current season Unser is batting at a .251 clip with 4 home runs and 26 RBIs. He has played in 78 games and scored 34 times.

Kingman homered off RHP Gary Nolan, who proves this guy's nickname in incorrect.

1975 All Star Break

Dave is on track for another 35 HR / 100 RBI season:

Compares pretty well with his IRL 1975 AVG and OBP stats, but he is actually lagging quite a bit in the SLG% department:

He currently has the NL lead in homers, and is in 2nd place in RBI at the break:
