Random Debut League Setup - Help Me, I'm Apparently Stupid
So...I don't think I'm a noob. I've been around OOTP for a decade, and I work in technology for a living, and yet here I am...completely stupided by something that is probably really, really simple.
My understanding for a random debut league is that I pick a year from the Historical Setup, and it gives me the league in that format with that year's settings/financials, but if I choose to use random players from all eras it will randomly pull players from the DB and throw them into a common draft, and then going forward the rookie draft will also be filled with random players. Is that correct? If it is...then what am I doing wrong? I've tried to set this up 4 times now, and twice I've had a league created with 0 total players in it, then the other 2 times there's been exactly one player in the league (once was Miguel Cabrera, once was Albert Pujols). I'm sure I'm just doing something really stupid and really wrong, but I don't know what it is. Please help! Thanks! ZD

I believe the problem is you started the league as an unemployed and didn't assign yourself to a team. What you've described is consistent with starting off that kind of league as an unemployed manager.
When you set up your league, don't start off as unemployed. Instead, assign yourself to your team. Then, when the league starts, it will start with the draft. But, if it was the case that you wanted to start off the league as unemployed, that's not a problem. In that case, start the league as you have been doing it. All of the teams will appear with empty rosters. Don't worry about that. That's what is supposed to happen. Then, just go to "play" and then "finish today." The draft will then be held, just without you drafting for anybody. You will then see that all of the rosters will be filled with the randomly generated players. |

Wow, ok, so this is even more embarrassing than I thought it would be but I'll own it.
So I read your post (which thank you, btw, for the response and your attempt to help!) and was like "That doesn't sound right...I'm looking at the list of draft pool and listing all MLB players and the list is empty." But I decided to just go ahead and have it do the draft/advance to the next day and the log is full of drafted players. So...where were they? So I brought up the list again to show me all MLB players...and it still only showed one player (Pujols). Just...what? And then I saw it. The "Filter" selection, in this BRAND NEW LEAGUE I JUST CREATED, was set to "Custom" and was set to find basically a REALLY high-rated player. I cleared the filter, and HEY LOOK! TONS OF PLAYERS! So...yeah, I'm a giant moron. So weird that whatever you had your filter set to from a previous game would carry over to another universe, but whatever. "Problem" solved! Thanks again. ZD

You're not alone. I've done the exact same thing before.
