2020 - Seattle Seawolves become an NHL Team

2020 is here and Seattle has taken on the name of the Seawolves. Based off the Rugby Team in Seattle, The NHL team will take form with the same name as they agreed on terms to share the team name and logo.

What seemed as though time flew to this moment, Seattle managed to get things together before entering the expansion draft.

Small notes to follow is the GM decision in Terence Baker.
Little Professional Hockey experience, they picked this man up from his performances at the World Cup Tournament where he was the GM/Coach of the Belarus team for the last two years. The team started out ranked 16 in the world in the first year of his take over. The team went on to finish with a record of 5-1-1 But lost in the Semi Finals to Sweden.
The second year they began the year Ranked 11 in the World. Finishing with a record of 6-1-0 Record , making it to the Semi Finals again to lose to Finland. The team is now ranked 7th in the world as it prepares for it's third year under Terence's lead.

Many feel this is an extremely risky play by Seattle, but they have faith in the rookie GM to bring Seattle a good few years of rebuilding.

GM and Owners decided on picking up Head Coach Adam Oates to take on the lead for the team. Adam Oates is known very well for his NHL career. 22 Seasons in the NHL gives him the experience and knowledge of what hockey is all about, but his career as a coach is yet to be tested, as he only has 2 seasons as a coach. Both being with the Washington Capitals from the 2012-2014 season. He coached 130 games for the Washington Capitals posting a 65-48-17 Record. Never making the playoffs in either season and was fired after his second season with the team.

Another risky play by the Seattle, but they believe in Adam Oates who has taken a break from the game since being fired from the Washington Capitals. A fresh start could be what is needed for Oates coming into a new team.

Seattle had a pretty good expansion draft. The Owners of the team team decided to continue with the plan of rebuilding, so GM Terence wasted little time shopping 26 Year Old C. Alex Galchenyuk, 2nd & 5th round pick in 2022 to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for 26 Year Old LW. Charles Hudon and rights to newly drafted 19 Year Old C. Samuel Poulin.

Alex Galchenyuk being moved freed up 5M in the cap hit, allowing Seattle to be about 14M under the max team Salary Cap.
Pittsburgh is getting a more consistent player as he's had 5+ seasons of 40 or more point seasons and is reliable when healthy setting up players. If it wasn't enough, they also have pocket'd acouple draft picks.

Charles Hudon is coming off his career highs in goals and points after collecting 19 goals, 20 assists for 39 points in 69 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins. This also is a good pick up for Seattle as his price tag is 770K for this season.

Name:  Samuel Poulin.jpg

Samuel Poulin being drafted #26 in the 2019 draft is a huge pick up for the Seattle team for future building. Samuel is coming off a huge season in the QMJHL in record breaking fashion across the board with the Sherbrooke Phoenix. In 54 games this past season, he had 33 goals, 57 assists for 90 points. This player could have a bright future and a really good chance to crack the roster of this new team.

Other Notes:
Seattle locked up a few of their unsigned draftees;
G. Chris Driedger - 2 YR, 650K per season
C. Reid Duke - 2 YR, 650K per season
G. MacKenzie Blackwood - 3 YR, 1.1M per season

Also Seattle matched 3 offers made by Minnesota;
RW. Ander Bjork - 3 YR, 2.28M per season
LW. Rudolfs Balcers - 3 YR, 1.98M per season
LW. Carl Grundstrom - 3 YR, 1.13M per season

The following players below have decided to play in other leagues;
LW. Austin Wagner - 3 YR, 575K in the NL
C. Ryan Donato - 2 YR, 570K in the KHL
LD. Ryan Murray - 2 YR, 1.18M in the KHL
C. Adrian Kempe - 2 YR, 1.68M in the KHL
RW. Kaperi Kapanen - 1 YR, 915K in the KHL

Still pending on contracts;
C. Mike Amadio
RW. Mathieu Joseph
RW. Luke Kunin

August.1.2020 - August.11.2020
Seattle continued to make the moves they felt needed bringing in veteran goaltender Michal Neuvirth in from free agents and trading Goalie Tristan Jarry to the Boston Bruins in exchange for young prospect center, Trent Frederic,

Michal Neuvirth brings plenty of experience to this new team. He has 294 NHL games played in the NHL, all notable as being a Backup Goaltender, which he can bring his experience and help to a young line up of Goaltenders.
Last season with the Tampa Bay Lightning, He posted a 3-4-1 record in 11 games with a 4.15 GAA and .883 SV%.

Despite his numbers no looking well, and being his worst season, expect him to redeem himself this coming season!

Trent Frederic will be another young talent that will be able to age into the roster. At 22, he's got a chance here to possibly crack the roster and enjoy a long career.

Drafted with the 29th pick by Boston ion 2016, Trent has played most of his time with the Providence Bruins.

He has a career high with them posting 7 goals, 12 assists for 19 points in 31 games.
