We signed P Vinny Martinez (35-L) to a 1 year contract extension at the modest price of $100,000.

Hal Ockey is finally over the flu.

The Dallas Eagles are here to play a 4 game series through the weekend. They just won a pair of games in Salt Lake City and have won 7 of their last 9. We were 7-1 against them last year when they finished 83-79 in 4th place in the PCL East. Even so, we are 13-19 (.406) since 2001, our worst record against any team. They are 12th in scoring in the PCL with 3.83 runs per game (Portland is #3 with 4.76). The Eagles are 4th in fewest runs allowed with 3.52 per game (Portland is #2 with 3.36). Their run differential is +22 and ours is +98, the Best in Baseball.

Dallas Eagles (39-32 .549 3 GB in 4th place in the PCL East) at
Portland Beavers (48-22 .686 11 GA in 1st place in the PCL West)

DAL: Oliver Pettway (23-R 5-4 3.86) vs POR: Rick Webber (23-R 4-3 5.75)

Pettway gave up 5 runs in 5.2 IP at Denver last time out in a loss. We have never faced him.

Webber has had 2 straight awful starts, but did not take a loss in either as we ended up winning both games. He gave up 5 runs in 1 IP last time. A third straight and we will have to evaluate our options, which are not many since we have traded away all those starting pitchers to make room for Webber....

We are making a quick excursion to Oakland to play a 2 game set before returning home. The Oaks just won 3 of 4 here from the World Champion Minnesota Twins and have won 5 of their last 7. We are 3-4 against them on the season and all of those games were in Portland. They are 6th in the PCL in scoring with 4.24 runs per game (Portland is #2 with 4.85). They are 14th in fewest runs allowed with 4.65 per game (Portland is now #1 with 3.31). Their run differential is -30 and ours is +114, the Best in Baseball.

Portland Beavers (51-23 .689 13 GA in 1st place in the PCL West) at
