MoneyBall is a go. Need a few GMs

This thread was started in the v11 forums about a year ago.

Yes, a pay to play OOTP league. Roughly 20 bucks every three months or so gets you involved in the first of its kind league with the possibility of winning 100 bucks or more!

The rules are on the forum (a few subject to change), but you pay .20 per win to play in a league with a payout pool of 350 bucks!

We are going forward with v12.

We are now over halfway full and here's a link to the league forums: LINK

I'll have to re-familiarize myself with the rules since its been a while, but ever since initially reading that thread a long while back, I've been fascinated by the concept. I would definitely be interested.

I'd be more interested in a league that used less hoops to avoid the suspicion of cheating.

Elaborate please. Those are the initial rules, we MAY have edited them later. What are you saying is 'too much'?

I think this could work (possibly with 16 or 20 teams instead of 24).

I think at this point, everyone having Facebook and a phone # should suffice for identity issues. if only the time was available

I would tend to agree.

I'm not good enough to pay to play OOTP.

Well, maybe if I had Megatron, right Jway?

That is perhaps true.

Honestly, I'd have every team put in some sort of 5-season investment up front.

i'm curious why we'd be using fictional players, wouldn't an initial drat be easier with players we all have somewhat of a scouting report on?

I could see making it 2, like the first season and a deposit that's refunded if your team is filled before the season

Real player leagues suck, IMO. In addition, the lower number of clubs would make a real player set provide too much talent.

Just seems like an initial draft will be brutal and take forever with having no previous scouting report and any of the players

No scouting report? I don't follow you.

I've done numerous initial drafts using OOTP's player ratings on fictional players. Its done by the ratings on fictional players just as it should be done on real players. You can't draft based on real life historical performance anyway.

Non issue, IMO.

Finally got a chance to read the rules again. Few questions/comments.

Is the salary cap the only limiting factor financially, or will team revenues be driven by the game. In other words, will you set media revenue to $100MM to guarantee every team has the ability to spend to the cap?

Why not extend the playoff rounds, should be best of 7 wildcard round, best of 9 for the rest?

Random thought, but it would be fun to create more divisional competition. Example, get rid of all the xx of the year award prizes, and instead implement a divisional reward system. 1st gets x, 2nd gets 1/2x, 3rd gets 1/4x, 4th gets zero. And then obviously still payout out the champion and runner up on top of the divisional award.

I'll take your word for it. Still seems like those late rounds would be brutal without the intial name recognition, but I've never been a fan of fictional, so never played one. except in real where 5-6 years down the road a lot of players are fictional. Either way I'm in to give it a shot. Ran the numbers for my MTBL league and i'd be up 80+ dollars in 5 seasons

I am against letting the team market make things unequal as far as money, so I would make the 100M a hard cap with media revenue edited to give each club that to spend (if I kept financials in the game). Otherwise, it could be kept separate from the game and basically bounce the payroll off the 100M number and disregard the ingame financials.

Why extend? I see no real benefit.

Payouts could be tweaked.

I'm not really looking for ideas on tweaking things at this point. I'm looking to gauge interest. We could (as a group) tweak things after we decide to go forward with this.

Does anyone know what happened to the original league? did it pay-out or did the commish walk away with the cash?

Also, sadly, a lot of new OOTP online leagues fail.
